There is a rumor floating around town about a possible naming rights deal coming soon for Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. The company being floated is EverBank. I take it with a grain of salt since we heard the same thing three year ago with Vistakon/Acuvue.
Anybody else heard this?
I hope its true. Anything to help my jags is good with me. Everbank is a company that is constantly growing so I could see them jumping on the opportunity to have their name out there.
Oh wow I hope so, EverBank Stadium... sure beats the current name.
EverBank would be nice.
The pessimist in me thinks it could be a smaller deal similar to their deal at the arena where they are strictly the sponsor of the club section.
The die hard fan in me hope it is a full fledged stadium naming deal. It would be huge for the team and it's long term viability.
Is Everbank large enough to be able to afford naming rights? They are a Private company, so I don't know specifics on their financials.
It has hit the news as of today!!

Everbank is flush with cash and is aggressively trying to gain market share in the vaccum created in the mortgage industry over the last 2 years.
If this is true, it makes sense.

That's huge - certainly has the perception of a long term commitment/investment (from both parties).
It would be huge for a local company to make that committment to the team.

It Will Soon Be 'EverBank Stadium'
Jacksonville Municipal Stadium Will Soon Have New Name
POSTED: Monday, July 26, 2010
UPDATED: 3:17 pm EDT July 26, 2010
EverBank Stadium graphic
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- After more than three years without a commercial name -- and the associated revenue -- Channel 4 has learned that the Jaguars have signed EverBank as the naming sponsor of Jacksonville Municipal Stadium.
Alltell's contract expired at the end of the 2006 season and the Jaguars and the city of Jacksonville have been looking for a new naming sponsor ever since.
WJXT learned Monday afternoon that Jacksonville-based EverBank has agreed to a deal and an announcement will be scheduled soon. Channel 4 is still working to learn the terms of the deal -- which is a revenue source for both the team and the city, which leases the stadium to the Jaguars.
EverBank is owned by a group of investors that purchased Marine National Bank and Marine National Bank and opened under the new name in January 2000.
As of May 30, 2010, EverBank had approximately $11.5 billion in total assets.
Hopefully the Jaguars can an EverTeam and live on to infinity and beyond :)

Yes! If they can make this a winning season I will be a very happy man!
what a great time to be a season ticket holder! maybe this will encourage a few more sales.
After all the negative media last year, let's see what they have to say now. And were only about 10,000 tickets away from avoiding blackouts and the first home game is not until August 21st. I know we can do it.

Would be nice to have this deal and the "bank hotel" (laura st trio) deal come together within a couple years!
EverBank really is a support of Jacksonville's sports district...it already has the EverBank Arena Club in the Veterans Memorial Arena and now they're working with the Stadium!!!
Check out photos and more info about the EverBank Arena Club at www.jaxevents.com
Excellent news.
The Everbank building (imo the nicest looking bldg we have) might actually be visible from blimp view. That's gotta be a plus. Yes I am happy about this!
Hopefully they made extending the Skyway out to the sports complex part of the deal
Wow - finally!!!!!
For a small market team, this is a HUGE win for them!
nice to hear some legitimate good news
Doesn't the city get a small cut from the naming rights as well?
This is just such a win-win for everyone involved!

That's the same thing Vic says... Jags.com won't report a player is 'signed' until the pen hits the paper. But ESPN, NFL Network, and every other major outlet will report of the signing.
Sounds like they won't report it, until Everbank 'signs' the deal tomorrow.

Good for both sides.
I have been reading the comments on all the local media sites. This story has generated a lot of great comments. Glad to know so many are speaking up positively about the Jaguars! It almost feels like 1993 again!!! haha
Smart move by everbank. Now everyone will be buzzing about them. If it is true about the 5 million per year rumor, then it is good for both sides. There is a ton of promotions they can run. This game is "money in the bank". Come down to "The Vault" and see the Jags play.
I love the name. It makes alot of sense for a local company to have the stadium's naming rights. I had made a post (that I can't find) a while back saying along the lines of "Everbank needs to step up" referring to Jaguars advertising in the stadium; They've took it to another level by having the entire stadium naming rights. Everbank also has a sign in the Baseball Grounds outfield.
I think it's going to be up to us to come up with a good name, metrojacksonville... I was on the Jags forum... The Vault seems to be popular but I think we can do better.... not me personally because I'm about as creative as a parakeet but somebody here will figure it out
I like "The Vault" for the wordplay allusion to Mike Peterson's famous quote...welcome to The Vault, prepare to be hit...
Duvault
Would be smart for the city to utilize their "cut" to reinvest in the team/stadium/infrastructure in some capacity as this is really just windfall. Not sure what $5-6 Million gets you, but they can certainly punctuate the message.
copperfiend, I can virtually assure you Duvalt gets a lot of play, nice one!

I read it too and am curious to see what it is.
On a separate note, some ticket holders got a tour of the Jaguars facilities and there was a corporate sponsor on the practice jerseys. This has not been announced by the team but it is a company with a large local presence. It really sounds like the business community is stepping up to support the team like they did in the early years.

I'm curious as well. I don't think it's a free agent signing. I heard a rumor that concession prices were going to be lowered, beer specifically down to $6... but I don't think that's the big news.
1/2 packs have been around for years so that can't be it.

The Jaguars apparently have also sold naming rights to their practice fields to Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
I don't see what else it could be other than a certain player. If beer prices went down, then the finicky folks would complain about soda prices instead. Let's see...did Mark Brunell sign with the Jets or not? Has Tony Boselli become a cyborg? The good free agents are all taken by now, so perhaps a trade?
I have no idea what it could be, but it's fun to speculate.
Wait...I know. The Broncos "thought" they drafted Tim Tebow, but it was actually his secret twin brother Jim Tebow...and the REAL one just signed with us. Yeah...that's what it is.
Don't want to start a new thread, but does anyone know if JTA will be running shuttles to the games this year?

They had quite a few before... one park n ride at the Sams Club on Beach, one at Phillips/JTB, and another near NAS.
These trips were subsidized pretty heavily though and ridership numbers dropped quite a bit over the last few years according to the data JTA made public. With the stadium only half full last year, the previous year's ridership numbers were downright sad.
Im glad that could change this year. I would voice my concerns to JTA and complete the survey they sent out if you want the OP route to come back.
Just asked and received...
This year, the Prime Osborne and Kings Ave stops are the same. $7/game or $56/season(game day passes will still get you a concession ticket, changes weekly)
There will also be suburban locations for ALL home games at:
Philips Hwy at JTB
Orange Park Kennel Club(the lot next to McDonalds)
And for all regular season games(no preseason) at:
San Jose Blvd at Marbon Road
Wingate Park at Jax Beach
Suburban lots are $12/game and $96/season
Since I can't come up with a reasonable idea for the pending 'big announcement" here's an unreasonable suggestion.

Their not getting anything I commend them for it. That shows they really care about the team staying here. Once the convention center was paid for, that money was diverted to the stadium fund on top of the funds they already had. Taking 25% more would just have been greedy. I am happy to see that we are finally doing something THE RIGHT WAY. Kudos Jacksonville, Wayne Weaver and the Jags.

After two dark, depressing years of palpable negativity, I'm actually sensing a real feeling of optimism from the city of Jacksonville about the Jaguars and their future here in the city. Hopefully it translates at the box office. Go Jags!
So, another 5 years of no convention money coming in? Wonderful. Rob from Peter to pay Paul. Sounds like a terrible deal for the city. The bed tax money is going to maintenance of ALL sports facilities. Its not like three years of bed tax money would fund a new convention center(the Sports Complex already received bed tax money previously). You're talking about 5 million a year that was previously going to pay off debt which no longer exists... and the city contractually has the burden for stadium upkeep on all three sports facilities.
Furthermore, if they were seeking a deal worth 5m/year... the city basically gave up the 1.5m it was going to get for a 5m/year deal to make the deal more economically viable for a potential sponsor.
Jags put 2k jobs in Jacksonville and have a direct economic benefit of around 130m/year.. giving up potentially 1.5m/yr that the city already wasn't counting on having to help an NFL franchise and major employer/business presence in the city to be more economically viable sounds like a no brainer to me.
After a couple of years with no naming right deal in place, seriously T-U, is the most appropriate headline really "Jaguars will keep all the money from EverBank Field naming rights deal." I know it's part of the story, but it certainly doesn't seem to be the headline to me.
It's a decent name! It could be worse, like the "1-800-ASK-GARY" or something like that. I shudder to think how it could have gone. Imagine "Cash For Gold" stadium.

Don't joke b/c we now have the 1-800-Ask-Gary Ampitheatre at the Florida State Fairgrounds in our great state. Gotta love Tampa :)
It seemed to me that the organization has always been careful to avoid having a potentially embarrassing or silly-sounding naming rights sponsor. E.g., Clean Shower put in a bid in 1997 and I understand that it was rejected in favor of the more substantial-sounding Alltel. In the press conference and in some stories in the past three years, Wayne Weaver alluded to having offers from companies whose names he wouldn't want appearing on the stadium.

I don't figure CSX has much of a need to advertise itself in that way...not like I could choose them over another freight line to ship something because they back my favorite team. And with their being publicly traded they couldn't well make that big of a long-term financial commitment just out of philanthropy toward Jacksonville. They are a good friend to the Jaguars from everything I hear.
Everbank has more to gain from the deal than CSX ever would. Everbank is now the exclusive bank of the Jags and they will have ATMs in the stadium.

Supposedly Macky Weaver hinted about Goodell coming here next week while on 1010XL yesterday.
It would be cool if he added Jacksonville to his tour. Another interesting thing is the increased public role and exposure for Macky Weaver.
If a Weaver is still the majority owner of the team after Wayne steps down that would be a huge sign that the team stays put (baring future stadium issues).

They are also a seriously well run bank with very advanced technology for banking online. They did not fall into the mortgage trap that most banks did and have maintained a four star rating. Tip of the hat to their management.
Not that it really matters much now, but is it true that CSX couldn't have the naming rights to the stadium because of government connections?
Looks like Goodell is coming, but surely that's not the ace up the sleeve.....
Roger Goodell's camp blitz won't include LionsQuoteALLEN PARK -- NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, who plans to visit several training camp this season (most of them by bus), won't head to Allen Park to see the Detroit Lions this year. Goodell, who was at Detroit's Ford Field public practice last season, is scheduled to visit eight teams this summer. So in the same post you say that places should be named after people that matter...but that the areana which is named for Veterans that served our country is generic...

It will always be the Gator Bowl to me!
I don't understand why so many people say that! The Gator Bowl was that old ugly stadium with the dangerous looking perforated metal floor, and aluminum bleachers. Might as well say that it's an entirely different stadium, besides only one upper deck structure. Why not stop there? It always will be Wolfson Park to me???It always will be the Coliseum to me???That mentality is the stuff that sets us back forty years.
Well, every New Year's I believe it still becomes the Gator Bowl for a week.
And the way Georgia's been playing, it becomes the Gator Bowl for a week in October/ November too

Zing!
The city is DANGEROUSLY close to fu@*ing ANOTHER ONE up.
If this falls through, we will be the laughing stock of the NFL.
We're risking Everbank pulling out, or giving the Jags another reason to pack it up, over what? 4 million that has to be spent on sports regardless.
Beggars can't be choosers.
Make the deal.
uh, ok.

Does the rule of 3 apply to good news?
1. Stadium naming rights deal::check::
2. Kennedy Pola getting lured away from the Titans::check::
3. 2010 season sold out on season ticket basis?
In his column today Vic Ketchman said there's more exciting news to come. Not as exciting as naming rights, but news that may put sales "over the top."

Oh, the whole #2 thing is just getting started, they filed a lawsuit against USC and Kiffin.
Back on topic.
I hope this lawsuit backfires on the Titians in that it becomes a huge distraction all season long. Eat it, Fisher!
Looks like the news Vic had alluded too came out in today's column:
Is the college question possibly the big news that we are waiting on?
Vic: Yeah, it is. The Jaguars are fond of a program the Penguins of the NHL developed. The Penguins are on, like, a 200-game sellout streak and they’re concerned about exposing their product to the next generation of fans, so they developed a concept in which they put college students on a waiting list for tickets that are greatly reduced in price. Pittsburgh has a big college population: Pitt, Duquesne, Carnegie-Mellon, Point Park, Robert Morris and more. It’s only about 200 or so tickets but it helps expose the product to young people. The Jaguars studied the concept, liked it and are trying to tailor it to their need to fill the bowl and make this a blackout-free season. The team is currently attempting to work out the mechanics of a plan that would allow season ticket holders to donate their tickets to local college students. The Jaguars believe it would help promote season-ticket sales. Why would it be big news? Because if the Jaguars get within a few thousand tickets of a season-long sellout, it could be the program that puts the whole ticket movement over the top. It could be the final step in guaranteeing that all Jaguars home games will be shown on local TV. There are logistical issues that have to be overcome. Let’s hope it can happen.
well the city council approved the name, so nothing can stop it now. Put up the new name on the stadium and GO JAGS!!!
First preseason game tomorrow, we can do it, xD
