About 1:00am they were hovering over my house and the surrounding area for almost a half hour. There was one cop car outside and he was looking up and down the street. Called the dispatch and they said someone ran from a traffic stop. This is where my 8 foot fence come in handy!

An eye in the sky is not allways the best way to go...............I wonder just what the JSO Bell Jet Ranger cost per hour to run, including fuel, crew and insurance? Days of old about $268 Dollars per hour..........I'm sure it is cheaper than that now!

If I'm not mistaken, that chopper is in the air for most of Fri and Sat night for quick response.  They may not be spotlighting homes, but they keep that bird in the air.
A common mistake people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

I wonder the same thing.... sometimes I see them "flying the pattern" over and over again, landing on the jail, sitting there for a while, taking off, circling over downtown, landing again, etc... I guess they need practice landing on top of buildings.

I've always wondered, anyone know what kind of facilities the top of the jail has for a helicopter? I'm guessing they don't refuel up there... just pick folks up, have lunch?

Ha get used to it.  I've heard that helicopter hovering over even the nicest neighborhoods many a time.

Well it is a question of tax dollars putting fuel in that Jet Ranger, plus the insurance, plus the crew cost, plus the wear and tear on what is called "Time Change Components" ..........that's parts that have x number of hours of useage before they have to be changed out! Helicopters are chock full of those items and some don't have alot of time on them. That is the factory specifications not a number you pick out of the air! When something goes wrong, you just don't pull over and park on a cloud! A Baptist Hospital bird went down next to 95 a couple of years ago .....never did find out what happened but it ended up in someones back yard! I don't think they refuel that bird on the Jail Landing pad, but who knows .....this is COJ!

ive heard this helicopter in the past, but this sucker was right on top of my house for about a half an hour. but you know i would rather have them there then not.

It is assumed JSO has only one copter.
COJ website says they operate 4 aircraft both fixed wing and copter..they don't say how many of each but DO say "the copters"

NotNow

One fixed wing Piper, three Bell helicopters.  Operational.  Some other aircraft are for sale.
