Green Urth Cafe

Sounds good, but restaurants in that area never seem to do well, other than La Nop.

Cases in point, Mare Sweet Kabob, High Tide Burrito, whatever has tried to go in next to La Nop, Quiznos. Panera doesn't count because they left do to a hostile landlord, not lack of business.

Hopefully Quiznos survives! I love it so. Is High Tide in trouble?

Captain Zissou

Quiznos is already dead.  Replaced by Jimmy Johns.  I am speaking purely from personal opinion, but it looks like they  aren't getting the business they hoped for.

jaxzjax

Sorry I meant Jimmy Johns. It's pretty packed when I go, especially around lunch time.

Tried out the Green Urth Cafe today.  Pretty cool place inside.  Probably 5-6 tables that seat 3-4, and 3 tables on the patio, then a long bar with a more social dining scene.  Looks like a place that would do well in a busier city.

Met the owners, they are persian and they said this is their soft opening.  Their menu isn't yet complete, but what I saw was mostly salads and sandwiches, with a focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients, and breads that are baked in house.

Onto the food:

I ordered their two specials: shrimp curry with basmati rice, $6.99, and a curry chicken salad sandwich on croissant, $6.99 (I could have chosen any type of bread), and an iced tea $1.59.  THe iced tea was not your typical tea you get at a chain restaurant but a raspberry flavored unsweetened.  Quite nice.

I'm pleased to say that the food was great!  The shrimp curry was an indian based curry with coconut milk.  It did have a layer of oil on the top of the container, but it reminded me of the getting indian food from a street vendor when I was a kid (the best kind of food!).  It was simple, and perfectly done.  Even the basmati rice was fantastic.  It must have been imported from somewhere else, because I've tried every variety available in local supermarkets, and none of them compare with this.  The grains are quite long, and a nutty aroma and a buttery taste.

The chicken salad sandwich was similary delicious.  Perfectly seasoned with the right balance of sweet (From grapes) and savory (from curry powder), on a fresh croissant (which requires some legitimate training to make).

So try the place out.  I want this place to stay in business because they said they're going to start serving persian and meditteranean food, with cooks from the area so it will be good and not trash.

sounds good will have to check this out!

If High Tide is in trouble, it's because of the lousy food. I am all for local eateries but in this case, if they're going to die, then let them do so and decrease the surplus population.

Haven't tried Green Urth but I'd like to. Are they open evenings and weekends?

BigHache

I tried Green Urth out the other day and and was quite impressed. I had the roast beef and pesto panini. I don't recall about the weekends, but they said right now they're open until about 9pm. I think it'll make a great place for a coffee bar hangout as well as for eating, which i'm happy about because Coffee Grinder is a bit away from me.

Yes, tried it, HATED it... got sick and found out the place has health code violations.  >:(

A friend and I had a fabulous lunch at Green Urth yesterday and will definitely be back.  I was surprised by the decor - much more upscale inside than I had expected. The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented, prices very reasonable, owners charming.  I had the chicken kabob wrap, which was only 4.99 and served with a beautiful salad - romaine with shaved parmesan and avocado slices - really unbelievable price given the quality and quantity of food.  The owner brought out complimentary (and really yummy) cookies after our meal.

They open about 9 every day, including Saturdays (and maybe Sundays?  not sure about that) and serve breakfast.

Highly recommended!!

I am representing Green Urth Cafe and I just wanted to dismiss the prior malicious comment made towards the establishment. In legal terms, we like to call this sort of defamatory attack as "libel." Let it be clear that this is not because we do not respect freedom of speech or freedom of expression. Foxy's comment would have been fine if it was simply, "Yes, tried it, HATED it...." but, that is not the problem here. The problem is that Foxy deliberately made a very false accusation towards Green Urth. If anyone needs physical proof of Green Urth's health standing, please, by all means, ask the owners to show you the health inspector's signature- they will be more than happy to so for they passed all regulations. To be honest, in my opinion, Foxy sounds like a) A jealous competitor who is more than slightly uneasy about the thought of another establishment's rising success or b) A former tenant who owes thousands of dollars....You know who you are.
So, outline of this comment: You are risking being sued for libel. I dare you to try to defend that in any court.
Good day.

I wish that all of the restaurants I frequent had such favorable inspections!

Green Urth is a great addition to the neighborhood - the atmosphere, food, and staff are all fantastic.

have eaten there twice now. totally dig the veggie sandwich. $5 bucks get you the you the sandwhich and some tabbouleh on the side. The only thing that would be nice is a sign that says have a seat or order at the counter, was a little confused at first. But over great lunch spot light and tasty.
