Any news on Gay Pride 2010?

I read the thread from last year explaining the cancellation and am wondering if a Gay Pride event will happen in Jacksonville in 2010?

Anyone have any news?

Gays are proud year round!

(Especially proud when it comes to comprimising an on stage performance). ;)

This thread could be a good can-o-worms.
Being happy with yourself is one thing but I don't tottally agree with the parades and obnoxious BS and all.
I see more dignity thrown out the door for these things lol

I'm down with the gays and all.. but seriously. I don't think I want to see another parade in 5-points ever again. They end up being nothing but "Used-condoms-in-the-streets-assless-chaps-bumpin-uglies-in-the-starlite-bathroom" fests. Seriously, a fun celebration is no reason to turn a diverse area that accepts you and your communities contributions to the area into some disgustingly perverted version of P-Town for a day.

We get, it guys. You're here, you're queer, get over it.

Nice generalizing there Loki.

Also, chaps are assless to begin with people.

I apologize for the generalization. No, really. I do. But seriously. Have you *been* to the 5-points parades in the past? Because I've been several years. I love the party atmosphere, but some elements tend to take the whole thing to the extreme and ruin it for me.

Maybe if they have one you should just not go?

Perhaps you're right. Perhaps the GLBT community shouldn't try and welcome friends that support their lifestyles and the GLBT community should ostracize those horrible, closed minded straight community folk that come out to show their support for their rights.

I just don't think that those rights involve doing a crapload of blow and getting freaky in the local bathrooms. Is that too much to ask? Ya don't wanna be a stereotype, don't feed the stereotype.

As one not to make baseless allegations, I'll dig up the various sources of information. Again, I apologize for generalization.

I think there was an Onion headline awhile back that read something like: "Gay Pride Parade Sets Back Gay-Straight Relations 20 Years." The article basically made fun of the over-the-top negative gay stereotypes that are completely reinforced by carnivale-esqe parades.

You said "Crap load of blow," "in the bathroom."

LOL!

They certainly attract a fair number of them to comment though.

Were there really used condoms 'everywhere'?  Or is that an exaggeration?

And if you switched out the chaps for ipads, how would this legitimately differ from a high school event?
Can't buy an iPad out of a bathroom dispenser ;)
