Jacksonville: We're not vertically challenged, just horizontally gifted!

Just received this message and wanted to share!!!

I am totally and completely appalled at the actions of the management of this "club" in Jacksonville. Initially, let me state that the song in question is NOT a slow number. It is upbeat, except for the very begining, and in no way should be considered slow.

SECONDLY...... how in the hell can anyone ask the Living Legend Dana Douglas to stop entertaining and to leave simply because, in their opinion, the song she is performing was not an upbeat number.

I have visited the club in question on occasion previously and now will not return. Dana Douglas is a great friend of mine and out of loyalty to her, this "club" will not receive another dime of my money.

I don't like to respond to petty drama, but i feel I must set the record straight. This story posted before anyone cared to check the actual facts.
You all are jumping on the fact that she was a Former Continential (25 years ago) But what wasn't stated is the Unacceptable behavior that lead up to this event.  I understand that she was a former Continential but with that title comes Responsibilities, the least of which should be professionalism.

When she was booked, as are all of my other out of town Entertainers, She was informed of the Friday night show policy.  All songs must be fast paced with high energy dance moves. She has performed for us previously and was well aware of the policy, and it was reiterated to her upon this booking. When the DJ checked her 1st 2 songs, they were found to be to slow, so she was asked to change them. She then proceeded to go off on my DJ, But my DJ stood firm to our policy, so Dana then demanded to speak to me to get me to over ride the policy for her. I had not arrived yet, but had i been there i would not have made the exception.  After much drama & hassle,  she changed her songs.  While the songs were faster paced, she still didn't give any kind of a dance performance, as was also agree upon at booking.   When It came time to check all the entertainers songs for the second show, The DJ found that Dana Chose "Love Will Never Do" By Janet Jackson. Although that is a great song, which would be fine on a Wednesday or a Sunday, it was to slow for a Friday show.  So when once again, the DJ asked her to change it, she again got upset, then flat out refused to change her song and said to cut her final number.

Dana would like to have you all believe that she was "mistreated & abused" all because of a song, when in fact, she was the one that was abusive to my staff and her "Grand" attitude was unacceptable.  Even tho she showed up unprepared without the type of music that was agreed upon at booking, We would have worked with her to find an alternate song to perform as we did in the 1st show, until she threw out her Ultimatium. She flat out said,  she's going to do the song she wants or cut her. I, like most people, do not respond well to Ultimatiums.  Considering all the attitude & Drama she created over this I felt it best to just cancel her 2nd half of the show. To prevent my customers from being exposed to any more drama she was politely asked to leave. My security guard was only there to insure that no further drama insued.

It's really unfortunate that it had to come to this. In the 5 years that I've owned the club, I've never once had to ask an entertainer to leave for refusing to do her job.
I Not only appreciate the fantastic Job my entertainers do, but I am very good to them. I support their outside endeavors, and have always been very generous by way of helping my regular house entertainers purchase materials for for outfits, both local and when i travel as well as and help with sponsorship for pageants.
Long before owning the bar, I've been a judge in some top pageants in Florida over the last 15 years. I have seen some of the best talent out there and know what it takes to make it happen.  They have my utmost respect and appreciation for the art.

For those of you that were upset over Dana's supposed mistreatment, I hope this has cleared up any misunderstanding you might have had.

Just speaking practically, since you were the one to bring up professionalism, wouldn't the professional thing to do be to simply let the artist do her gig and then not invite her back again if you weren't pleased with the performance? Seems as though an unnecessary altercation was the real problem in this situation.

As strange as the whole drag thing seems to me, I can easily see how people would feel a line has been crossed. This would be like having dinner guests over and not liking their shirt, or not liking the tone of their conversation, so I get my 300lb friend to publicly throw them out of the house. Probably would have been better to just not have them over again, right?

So you didn't like the songs on the woman/guy/whatever's set list. Well, ok, fair enough. But I'm evidently missing the part where that means your DJ gets to go apeshit on them in front of however many people, followed by your throwing them out of the place and then posting on message boards about how unprofessional the other person is. Glass houses and all that.

And, FWIW, just so we have it straight, she/he was publicly kicked out by your security guards very politely? As opposed to what? Hate to see ‘impolite.’

Attitude and drama from a drag queen? Sorry, I don't buy it.
The next thing you know, someone will be saying Fox News isn't "fair and balanced".

'Love will never do (without you)' would be a mid-tempo song in my book. It's no "Miss You Much" to be sure.  According to the owner, the Diva went off on the DJ, not the other way around.

Well you probably could've stopped at #1...lol

Last time I tried to go there, which wasn't all that long ago, I guess I unwittingly showed up on "urban night"? There were cadillacs bouncing up and down in the parking lot, a pit bull chained to a pole, probably 20-40 people wandering around in the parking lot in varying states of weirdness, carrying around beverages they clearly didn't buy inside, and then across the street there were 4 or 5 cop cars just sitting there and watching the goings-on.

I pulled in, and pulled riiiiiiiiight on back out. I literally couldn't believe what I'd just seen. I googled the place when I got home, and apparently they've had real problems with shootings, etc. So I really don't get it?

Here on the one hand, management clearly has no problem allowing the place to turn into a real-life Hieronymus Bosch painting at least once a week, but yet they're so hypersensitive to every little detail that they demand to pre-approve some singer's silly set list and then throw him/her out when they don't agree?

This is like Weekend Update on Saturday Night Live....REEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAALLLLY???

Well you went to Urban night
Granted and not to sound racist as this will probly but its the truth. I'm to white and if you are anything but black your thought of as a cop inside the club and no matter who you are, if you do that and are able to walk out count your blessings.

That night does have alot of money change hands so.
Fridaynights are gay night but even then its more lesbians there atleast past times I have gone. Mon-Thur never been. Never really intend on going back either to be honest.

There was also that stabbing in the parking lot by the crazy lesbian last year. I was at 616 when that went down.

Perhaps "Black Cat" would have been more appropriate?

That or anything by Slayer. Most of their songs are pretty uptempo.
