Up to my ears and fed up with neighbors dogs

Up until about 3 years ago, this neighborhood was a peaceful one. Sure, the occasional gunfire from across the river would ring out, but I let the law handle that. The hum of cars on San Juan and Blanding are easy to deal with, it's not that loud.

Neighbors dogs though, bark at the sight of a leaf falling from a tree and it's driving me NUTS! Not just 1 neighbor, I'm talking multiple neighbors in and around my house. When we had dogs, they were trained not to bark unless someone was forcing their way into the house or into the backyard, not when they saw a "person" walking by on the street or heard a noise. It's to the point where some of the dogs are left barking all day, and all night. I don't want to be confrontational, but I'm to the point of desperation on ideas on how to get these dogs to shut it.

Is there something I could do? We've already tried asking them to calm their dogs down, and it's gotten us nowhere in the long run. Who can I email? Who can I call? I don't think is a "I'm telling Ken" kinda problem, so I come here asking for advice.

Please and Thank You.

Haha, that was great. If only a Deathstar truely did exist, I'd spark a deal with Lord Vader and Master Sidious.

There's an ordinance that covers this kind of problem....call ACC and report them.

ACC brings up Atlantic Coast Conference, do appreciate the response, but why does that stand for?

I apologize, I just assumed that everyone knew...and thank Notnow for answering your question.

Anyway, I hope that they'll be able to help resolve the barking issue. I also find it extremely annoying and down-right ignorant of neighbors who allow their dogs to bark all night (or day.) I just never understood how it doesn't bother them  ???

Dog Walker

I have seen advertisements for some anti-bark devices disguised as bird houses that send out some sort of loud ultra-sonic noise when a dog barks.   Humans can't hear the loud noise, but it is supposed to startle and discourage the dogs from barking.
When all else fails hug the dog.

its been my experience that if two parties complain together, the resident in question is issued a summons by the city (JSO), at first a warning. if a second summons is issued the party is issued a fine, but they can contest it which would involve you testifying in court. i think this is your best choice. If you call the police, they would send a community service officer to the residence. I believe in this situation you can keep your anonymity.
Good luck!

I have had the same problem.  I knocked on the door and complained to the owner and said "If you can hear it, so can we!"  He did nothing.  That was six months ago.  I got a sound machine and now listen to the ocean.  I hear the dog between the waves.  I'm so used to him that if another dog starts barking, I'm irritated at that, but not dog number one anymore.  I'm numb to him, but it took about a month of no sleep.

(It probably would have been a good idea to call animal control.)

Quite honestly, anonymity isn't even that big of a deal because I don't converse with the neighbors. As far as I go is a wave, and that's it. Too many times in the past where I put trust in a neighbor and they have taken advantage of me. The one's I've known for a decade or longer are fine, but not a few months or a year.

I do appreciate everyone's replies here, definitely a little bit more informative than anything I could find through google. I also did read about the high pitched noise that's sent out if a dog barks, that's something I'm also going to look into as well.
