Not sure where to post this, or if I should.  I don't want to take any traffic away from MetroJacksonville.com but here goes.

I am moving to the area in a month or two and am looking for some of the better local online news outlets, I peruse the following:

www.jacksonville.com
www.bizjournals.com
www.actionsnewsjax.com
www.firstcoastnews.com
www.news4jax.com
jaxdailyrecord.com

Are there any others or better.  Some of these sites have a lot to be desired.

Thanks in advance!

Honestly, this is the best source of information.  We (members) view and post articles from most of those sites you listed and carry on with discussions about the article information, many times filling in any gaps or expanding on the details.  There are plenty of entrenched members here that are many times directly involved with the topic of discussion allowing them to provide first-hand experience to the discussion.

You're going to get a ton more current information by simply reading this site than you would by reading all of the others on a daily basis.

I have to dissagree, this is a decent source of second hand news, but with people who insult others becuase of differnt views and turn arguments and who go off into right field about the CIA or Serbs....Yea

besides this site doesnt have reporters running around to happenings. :P

Despite any ranting and insulting, (which most of us tend to indulge in from time to time) I find the available interaction coupled with the variety of knowledgable and connected contributors here to be an unparalleled source for gaining understanding of local happenings.

This is still my favorite site.

I find very little relevant news coming from our local news stations.  The information that I look for is something specific to NE Florida that affects my life or peaks my interests, not the latest murder or day care report.  This site is chock full of discussion on things that the other media outlets don't cover at all or only cover partially at best.  And there is a good amount of investigative journalism by our founders and contributing members.  Have you seen the exclusive interviews with the Mayor, Toney Sleiman, JTA representatives, local artists, developers, buisness owners, etc?  Have you seen the historical information on all things Jacksonville?  Have you seen the in depth reports on the grassroots transportation initiatives?  Also, the things that aren't covered by Metro Jax directly are covered via article links through this site.

Where else would you get that on a regular basis?

Thanks for the info!

I do seem to find the local Jax news scene lacking, not to say Raleigh NC is any better.  I peruse ALOT of sites, from NYTimes to DrudgeReport.  I am just looking for a local point of view.

http://www.residentnews.net/home.html

Is the online home to "The Resident" which is a hyper-local newspaper, focusing on (1) riverside, avondale, ortega, & murray hill and (2) san marco, san jose, and st. nicholas.

You can download thier latest editions.

The top option for news is Jacksonville.com. That would give you most up to news via net for Jacksonville. This site is about civic progress than up to date news in Jax.
