New to the forum, new to the area. Moving into the Five Points area. Looking for a good, independent (not WalMart, Costo, etc) store to furnish a new apartment (need anything from knives to rugs to furniture).

Anyways, I'm looking for a place kind of like Solomon's Bargain Center over near Art Museum Drive--where they have extremely cheap goods in bulk for easy picking. I saw an article from the T-U about a similar store on the Westside, but the name keeps slipping my mind!

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I meant something more in the line of an "independent" store...but thanks for the look + reply
I know there is that new Swedish style furniture store in 5 Points, but a tad overpriced. Same goes for Midnight Sun.
I need "stuff", i.e. anything from a rug to a set of knives.

I wish i knew which forum section to put this question, but being new here, i have no idea

thanks for your help

Oh darn, the name escapes me, but there is something over in Murray Hill (I think?) that you're describing.

Are you thinking of JW Discount? It is at Post and Edgewood in Murray Hill. That place is really a mixed bag. It can be really hit or miss. It is kind of between a Big Lots and a flea market. They get whatever is passed down from other stores, so you never know what will be there. However, it is extremely cheap and can have some descent stuff. There is also a furniture store attached to it that runs on the same premise, but I think its actually another store.

There are also some consignment shops there on Edgewood too that would be worth checking out.

There is a used furniture place in Murry Hill called Angela's(?)  For rugs and dishes you might want to try the Goodwill store on Cassett.  Publix right now has a big display of cutlery and also has other kitchen stuff at pretty good prices.

Thanks to all that replied, and more ideas welcome

All sounds good--checking them out this weekend

(I think JW is the one i was thinking about)

There used to be some really good used furniture/ antique stores in the flea market on Beach close to 9a.  I could find stuff from the 30’s to the 80’s there. There is also a Solomon’s on Main in Springfield...it may be just an auction house now though. The local thrift stores like the Team recovery one at 1728 Main st. (I know, I'm shameless sometimes) often has good stuff like you are looking for.

Yup............Team Recovery store might be a good bet...........believe address is 1728 Main Street in Springfield, if my memory serves me right! Worse that could happen, you strike out! Goodwill store on south end of Southside has a selection of just about everything and they are cheap! Another Goodwill at Beach east of 9A!
