My girlfriend and I are volunteering through The Bridge of North East Florida to support a family for Thanksgiving by providing them with a full meal. I was curious if any of the many people here from Springfield have worked with them in the past, or know of their work. I found them through the www.handsonjacksonville.org site, and checked out their site (www.bridgejax.com/) and noticed that they are located and work with the Springfield area. They seem to be a reputable and large operation, but was looking for any confirmation that they do the work in the area that they say they do.

The Springfield Woman's Club has frequently worked with and supported The Bridge - for instance, coordinating donations of formalwear for their annual prom.  They have a neat community garden at the corner of 8th & Pearl and have assisted with transportation for our Holiday Home Tour.  All in all, I've never heard anything negative about them and folks seem to be pretty happy to have them as a neighbor in Sp'fld.

I agree, Hoop Lady. Lucas, they are located the Springfield historic district. They do wonderful work with young people who don't have the advantages many of us enjoy. You've found a worthy cause to support. I would encourage you and your girlfriend to volunteer with The Bridge.

I volunteered for a time there. Well worth while.

There's a similar organization just a few blocks down called "The Sanctuary" who also does great work that you may want to check into as well.

Thank you all. We are going to do the support a family for Thanksgiving program. My girlfriend did all the shopping yesterday and it came in right around $50 for a family of 6, so it wasn't too much to be able to do. If anyone is interested I have the contact information on it.

Lucas, please go ahead and post the information. It's good to have it available.
