There is a new art studio on King St at Park and King (where Olives and Oils used to be). It takes up three store-fronts. During the day there is usually paper covering some of the windows but the other night the paper was down and there were quite a bit of people in there and there is a sign up now. Has anyone got any idea who's in there? Is it open for just anyone to walk through? Is this part of the Downtown Vision's plan for artists' spaces in un-leased buildings?? I've been so curious!!!

Cool, I have no idea who is there. I wish all empty spaces were provided to artists to show off their skills.

So he set up shop in what used to be the Whiteway Deli. Great space, love the old brick.

I give it a year before he moves out. That obnoxious landlord has a real talent for running off tenants.

Yeah that's his trick.

Lures you in with cheap rent, and tells you it's his policy he only signs a 12 month lease at a time, but don't worry you've got nothing to worry about, because he hates to lose tenants, and he really cares about your business, yada, yada, yada. Then (big shocker) he quadruples it at the renewal, knowing you've just spend a fortune on the build-out and aren't in a position to say no.

I know two people off the top of my head who've had this happen to them in the last 6 months.

The landlord is the same douchebag who has taken legal action against Whiteway Deli for alleged "infringement" over the Whiteway name.  Nonetheless, I wish the art studio well, since it will be an asset to the neighborhood.

Dog Walker

The art studio will be gone in twelve months if George Martin still owns the Nasrallah Building, what he is now calling the Whiteway Corner.  He is really the one infringing on the Whiteway Deli name.
