QuotePresident Barack Obama is planning a visit to Jacksonville early next week as part of a two-day swing through Florida, according to the Associated Press.

The trip would be Obama’s first appearance in the region since he campaigned at Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena on Election Day eve last November.

Obama will be in Jacksonville on Monday and Tampa the next day, the AP reported Monday night. It said the White House was providing no further information.

Probably to push an issue of his such as health care.  Maybe an education related appearance.  Also, the military is a possibility.  No electioneering going on yet that I can think of.

How about a surprise milestone birthday party for Corrine Brown?  Or a meeting of the Clay County Republicans?  Or, maybe, with the Roar in the background, he is he going to ask us to buy Jag's tix?  :D
Hey!  Whatever happened to just plain ol' COMMON SENSE!!

I sure hope it isn't to cut a ribbon for the start of 9B construction using stimulus money!  ???

One thing we can be sure it won't be: Cutting a ribbon for our new mass transit system using stimulus money  >:(

Whatever the reason, it is good to see that the first coast is on the minds of the White House.  It is always good and exciting for the city when a President comes to town, regardless of party affiliation.

Yes, Obama was here in Jacksonville on the Monday before he was elected President of the United States.

Maybe he is going to have a joint appearance where Crist will endorse Health care?

Except when you are stuck behind the motorcade that seems to run over everything and everyone in its way.

Saw where Obama planned to attend a NYC dinner, where the cost was $15,000 per person, hoping to raise 3 million for the Dem party there. That is some expensive rubber chicken.
And, that $115 will save Jacksonville from financial ruin. - Mayor John Peyton

Believe it or not, there are a number of big Democratic party donors in Jax.

Regardless of your political leanings, it is healthy for our community to have players in both parties.  Not only to balance our community's perspectives and approaches to issues that are rarely cut and dried and to moderate the extremists, but to make sure we always have tentacles to those in power when the privileges of victory are being exercised.  A lot of things are still bi-partisan, thank goodness.

A little more insight into what might be motivating Obama to visit our area:

QuoteObama trying to boost party money, morale

NEW YORK (AP) - The leader who prods his critics to put politics aside is doing anything but these days: President Barack Obama is campaigning for his party's future.

Barreling Tuesday into several days of frenetic political activity, Obama The Campaigner has work to do in helping raise money and rally loyalists for lesser-known Democrats....

....So, as the Democratic standard-bearer, Obama is putting his time on the line and his prestige to the test with a blitz of fundraisers and campaign appearances.

He is asking donors not just for money, but also a burst of campaign energy to help him get his enormous domestic agenda passed, particularly health care reform. He does knowing it is harder to get people jazzed up to lobby Congress than to win an groundbreaking election....

... In the coming days, the president also will campaign for Democrats in New Jersey, Virginia, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Florida, a notable cashing-in of Obama's time as he fights to pass health care reform and tries to find a winning Afghanistan strategy.

It's not just this year's races that are at issue but also the broader state of the Democratic Partyâ€"from cash-flow to enthusiasmâ€"heading into next year. In the 2010 elections, Democrats will try to defend their majorities in Congress and seek to pick up governor's seats...

...In two states where Democrats hope to pick up Senate seats open because of Republican retirements, Republicans Charlie Crist and Marco Rubio vastly outraised Democrat Kendrick Meek in Florida in the past quarter...

Obama will head to Miami afterward for a $10,000/plate dinner. That's all I know...

Alright Obama its time to kick sand on the shoes of those who didn't vote for you and just want your federal dollars pushed under the back door :D
