Will not happen and won't happen, anytime soon or in the foreseeable future in the Bible belt.  I'm a liberal man to some extent, and agree with anti-discrimination bills for gays, but not the gay marriage thing; however, I am for some type of legal thing if two people have lived together and forged some type of agreement, minus/outside of marriage, that is legally recognized in order for both persons to benefit from that relationship in case one of them dies during the relationship.

It's not as far-fetched as you might think.

While Columbia SC is pretty liberal by the standards of the Bible Belt/South and SC in particular, it is still in the Bible Belt, and has had a similiar ordinance for around 15 years.  Charleston SC, followed suit a few years after Columbia. 

The Nashville, Columbia and Charleston ordinances only ban discrimination within CITY GOVERNMENT, not private business/industry, as some cities and states have done. 

Based on how 'behind' Jacksonville is from Nashville in most areas, we could expect this to occur in Jax in 10-20 years.

There are many openly gay city employees.  I don't know of any discrimination against them in our city government.  Are we talking spousal rights or something?  As far as hiring and promotion, it doesn't appear to be aproblem here, although I admit that my observations are limited to JSO.

Generally speaking, all that is involved is adding 'sexual orientation' to the list of non-discriminating classes (race, ethnicity, gender, origin, etc.)

All of the companies under the Fidelity umbrella protect against discrimination based on sexual orientation.  Then again, most of the companies that were absorbed and the locations of those companies were in progressive areas, such as SoCal and the Twin Cities.

If transplants from Blue (New) England continue to stay put and more UNF and JU graduates decide to stay here instead of fleeing to places such as NYC, Boston, Chicago, Denver, SoCal (except Orange County) Norcal and Seattle, then there is hope we may become more progressive.

I'm keeping an eye on the effort to decriminalize marijuana across the ditch.  Even if defeated, a close margin would indicate to me we may have reached the point where we may be considered Florida and no longer South Georgia.

I camp all across georgia and honestly florida, atleast in jax is NOTHING like it lol
