5 Points Theatre

As the title of the topic indicates, Public Enemies starts tomorrow (that's Wednesday, July 1) at the 5 Points Theatre with shows at 5:15 pm and 8 pm.

Our midnight movie this week is Team America - World Police, which should need no introduction.  However, it's a prototypical Hollywood action film, made with marionettes by the creators of South Park.

The midnight movies have really been getting huge - 150 people showed up for Clockwork Orange last week.  Next week (July 10th) we've got Reservoir Dogs.

As always, check our website at www.5pointstheatre for showtimes, upcoming films, etc. or check us out on Facebook.  We like to hear your feedback as well.

Schedule Update:  We have the changed the movie times for Public Enemies, starting tomorrow (Friday, 7/3).

The new showtimes are 6:15 and 9 pm.

Thanks.

By the way, how is the 5 Points Theater doing?  Is it successful or so so ho hum?  I remember when it was theater back in the day and it was not that successful, but, I hope it is doing well because the 5 Points area seems to be doing well.

I hope they're doing well.  I feel bad, because I haven't been yet, even though I love the idea of having an independent theatre in the neighborhood.  I guess I've just been kind of disappointed that they don't show too many independent or smaller-run movies.

I catch a movie there around once or twice a month. Last Friday I saw The Hangover and it was at least three quarters full, plus Mayor Peyton was present in casual clothing laughing at all the the ridlclious scenarios that came up (Mike Tyson and his Tiger?) along with everyone else.

My friend said we should go bother him about the real estate tax increase, but meh, he looked off duty.

The other times i've been it's been fairly full. I caught a good number of independent films during this year's film fest. Good stuff!

We've seen two movies there; Milk and one during the Film Festival.  It was half full at a late showing in the middle of the week for Milk and standing room only during the film we saw at the film festival.

Nice having a theater with walking distance.  Now if they would just make more movies I want to see.
When all else fails hug the dog.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.  We're doing pretty well in our first six months.

It is a weird business to try and learn.  Movies that we think will do well - Land of the Lost, for example - turn out to be bombs.  We totally did not predict that Hangover would be as big as it has been.  We had planned to show Year One but there was a scheduling issue.  It has turned out much better this way.

The Film Festival succeeded beyond anyone's dreams.  We're going to try and do one "indie" week per month.  In August we've got a gay and lesbian film festival (in conjunction with the Jacksonville Film Festival).  In September we'll have the Manhatten Short Film Festival, plus some other fun stuff (maybe Food, Inc. and maybe Moon).  In October we've got a Latino Film Festival.

And of course the midnight movies have been huge.

Check our website to see what we've got coming up, and I'll continue to keep posting here.  We love to get feedback!
