Allright gentlemen and ladies, I'm looking for some new tunes that a worth a listen.  I'll listen to almost anything besides ambient and electronic, so any ideas would be welcomed.

Here are some lesser known bands that you guys should definitely give a listen to: Blitzen Trapper (their newest album, Furr, is simply amazing), Ryan Bingham (alt-country is alive), Dr. Dog (check out their album, Fate), The Felice Brothers (fans of Dylan shouldn't be dissapointed with these guys), Floating Action (great lo-fi), Bedouin Soundclash (check out Sounding a Mosaic, the lead singer sounds a little Paul Simon-ish), SOJA (best new reggae band I've heard in a while), Drive-by Truckers (just a great rock band), Cunninlynguists (quite simply the best hip-hop act around), Common Market (check out Tobacco Road).  Last, I'll plug my cousin, Christina Wagner.  If you haven't had an opportunity to check out one of her live shows, do yourself a favor.

My taste in music is about 20 years behind, but I have been finding a few bands that are fairly new but 80's influenced. Check out Shiny Toy Guns, The Epoxies and I hate Kate.

I have been really into the Bastard Suns for a while. They are an unsigned band out of Atlanta. They are punk, with some reggae influence. They call themselves Drunk Rock :-D

I love Sufjan Stevens.  I usually just pretend that "Jacksonville" is about us.  Who has ever even heard of Jacksonville, IL?
If you like the Postal Service, check out Owl City, similar sound and awesome lyrics (Listen to designer skyline, Ock would love his approach to mass transit).
For those who don't know, Of Montreal might be most well known for signing the Uber-catchy song for the Outback steakhouse commercials.
The Ting Tings are fantastic.  I kind of made myself tired of "That's not my name" by constantly feeding my friend Stacy dollars to play it on the jukeboxes in the bars in Gainesville, but listen to "Great DJ". One of my current faves.

Good call on Goldfrapp Stephen. I've gotten my girlfriend into some of her stuff. If anyone is into progressive rock, I would recommend Mars Volta. They just kick ass period. In the new nu-wave genre, I'm partial to Bloc Party. As for something more obscure, right now I've been rocking out to Late of the Pier. Pretty much all of these aforementioned bands are available to listen to on lala so you can check them out without having to buy anything. Here's another great band:

Thanks for the embed. Late of The Pier has been lumped in with them in the New Rave movement.

Also, I know the OP didn't want anything electronic, but I have to give shouts out to Justice, Crystal Castles, M83, and Simian Mobile Disco. Here's a great SMD song and video (which may be NSFW):

Lest I forget, other great bands: Santogold, M.I.A., CSS, and Kasabian.

Saadiq is good, but I just can't get into soul that much. I do have a healthy appreciation for Sam Cooke.

Here's a great Late of the Pier video. It's low budget, but fun and the song rocks.

Also, I keep remembering other great band that few people know: TV on the Radio, The Lovemakers (it's a crime that they don't have top ten songs), and Empire of The Sun (pretentious but totally awesome in an 80's way). Kasabian is one of those band whose songs pop up in video games, commercials, tv shows, and movie soundtracks but nobody knows who they are. My gf always says that I play her some new music and before you know it we hear them in an ad on TV. I joke that I have the sames tastes as Art Directors.

TPC

Nothing new but lately I've been listening to Manchester Orchestra, Okervil River and The Do, an awesome french band. If you want some good mix albums for free check out the LSTN series by Urban Outfitters. http://lstn.urbanoutfitters.com/

I posted this in another thread a couple of months ago:

Don’t know if you’re already familiar with these semi popular groups but if not definitely look em up. Based on who you mentioned you’ll probably like them.

Fleet Foxes â€" Relatively new band with a folk/bluegrassish sound.

Just to make things easier…

Animal Collective â€" Uuuuuh, Experimental Pop Rock? (I hate subgenre labels like this) Imagine Pink Floyd remixing Beach Boy songs. Anyway check out their new album Merriweather Post Pavilion. Catchy, trippy, awesome.

The Hold Steady â€" Lots of Springsteen comparisons and it’s not hard to see why. Some of their songs sound so much like him it’s scary. But they’re not just some rip off of The Boss. These guys have their own style and write damn good songs.

Conformulate. Be conformulatable! It's a perfectly cromulent deed.

Stephen, thanks for taking the reigns on some more suggestions.  I'm glad you mentioned Christina Wagner, as she's insanely talented and a cousin of my mine.  Here's something that may be up your ally, too.

The Black Lips: FAD, sounds like the beatle if they went punk.
