I received this email that I thought I'd share for anyone interested in learning more about the history of Springfield.

QuoteOrganizing home tours in Springfield is one of the ways that neighbors get folks from all over town and even other parts of the county excited about the community and it's roots.  If seeing the evolution of this urban neighborhood as it's restored to a  former glory wasn't enough then, watching the vibrant interaction between people who live, play, and in many cases work here should certainly clarify how wonderful this area is.

Interested in the history of Jacksonville and Springfield?  I'm excited to announce a book signing that will take place at the Springfield's Heritage Home and Garden Tour 2009. The book  called “Love, Midgie” is one woman's story about growing up in Springfield in the Mid 20's during the outbreak of the Spanish Flu in Jacksonville. It's written by Faith Connors about her mother-in-law; she and her husband Tracy are both self published authors. You may check out the book's website at www.lovemidgie.com. Tracy Connors' book “Baited Trap” will also be featured on this occasion. Faith, Tracy, and Midgie will be signing books at Midgie's Tea Room on Mother's Day weekend May 8th & 9th, 5-8 pm and Sunday 10th, 1-4 pm at 1321 N. Main St. during the home tour.  A limited amount of books are available for purchase but orders may be placed. There will be tea room treats (beverages and petits fours), fine art sale, drawings for prizes, Heritage Photos by Renee Parenteau, and some of the historians from the Golden Teacup Society will be dressed in time period clothing. Tickets are $12.50 early sale, $15 at door and can be purchased in the SPAR (Springfield Preservation and Revitalization) office, www.sparcouncil.org.
