I have been asking the Mayor and City Council Members the following questions:

1. Why are Businesses Closing in the City of Jacksonville.
2. Why are People Loosing there Jobs?
3. Why is the Unemployment Rate at it's highest?
4. Why is the Crime Rate at it' highest?  Some of which you do not here about.
5. WHY is there ALOT OF VACANT  BUILDINGS in the City of Jacksonville?

I tell you my thoughts is that The Mayor does not want to listen to the small business owners who does not have alot of money.  Mayor Peyton does not want to even come out to my store after 7 invitations via emails and also by voicing the invitations at the City Council Meetings, Planning Commissioner Meeting, LUZ Meetings.
I also invited the City Council Members and only 2 have showed up. On the first email sent was CW Glorious Johnson responded within a day of the email.  Then 3 months later CM Jones comes by the store.
CW Glorious Johnson is the only one who has showed support for the small business owners of this city and she has gotten answers for me. I could not even get the District 14 Councilman to return our phone calls or even come by to speak with us. Only his secretary called us back.

To me if a city official can not even make an attempt to help the small people of this city then they do not need to be holding a position in the political field.

My saying is that these officials needs to get off there LAZY BUTTS and get out in the COMMUNITY to talk to the people of this city instead of staying behind closed doors.   Even if it is not your district area go to other district areas to find out what is happening. Then you can be better off knowing what your co-workers is not doing and it can be addressed appropriately.

Just to let you know that there are 26 vacant locations from Roosevelt Blvd to the I-10 overpass along Edgewood Ave S. Why are they vacant.  Because they can not make it here in this city.

Is the Al's in the old Wal-Mart plaza at Beach & San Pablo still open?  I went there a few times and I'm pretty sure it's the only place open in the entire plaza, save for the Hobby Lobby that moved into the old Wal-Mart space.

Al's is still open and seems to be doing pretty well. Other than Hobby Lobby (which never really seems very busy), the only tenants I think are an old Dick's Wings, a little sports pub and a karate place. I doubt anything ever moves into the old Winn Dixie or Bealls unless the lease on the Publix across the street is up. They could raze the shopping center and build from scratch.

The Mayor DOES NOT care about the Business owner or the little people. I speculate some City Council people (Not all) do not either.   Too bad .

well the first 3 things are happening in just about every city in this country...#4 is not true, as the city's crime rate has been going down for several years....and some would say #5 is also not true since we've demolishd many of the vacant buildings.

When the next 'conservatives' come around claiming to be business-friendly, promising to attact more business and vows never to raise taxes, let's do ourselves a favor and call them out for the past eight years?  Yes, we are in a recession, but these same 'leaders' in city hall are the same ones who professed to be uniquely qualified to lead a city to prosperity.  Next time, I hope that these clowns don't toss around promises that they cannot keep.  Aren't you tired of voting for Republicans and getting anything but?

I'm personally tired of promises made and anything but, lived up to.  The last 8 years only?????  Try the last two decades at least.

Quote from: gridsketch on June 30, 2010, 08:29:33 PM.......... Part of the civic responsibility includes how will we reuse an empty McDonald's when it moves to a new subdivision further out. ............

Small business owner and commercial real-estate folks will work it out if the neighborhood has any potential. For example the Taco Bell at San Jose and Sunbeam converted to a flower shop 5 to 10 years ago. The McDonalds at Kings and Baymeadows is a Chinese Restaurant now. The McDonalds at San Jose a little south of Kori is now a Bonos. The McDonalds at Park and Rossell turned into a repo car sales place.  The Wendys down the street turned into  AJ's Park Street Cafe.

Jaxson

AJ's used to be a Popeyes.  Wendy's is still alive and well in Five Points, though!

The McDonalds @ Park and Roselle is vacant now.

McAllisters is growing in Jax.

They just opened a new place on Beach next to the Target and BoA branch east of Hodges. Business is doing very well there. Great lunch crowd.

Also the Zaxby's that opened earlier a half mile east of McAllisters is considered the best run Zaxby's in town. Way better than the JTB/Philips or Airport Road stores. You will not be disappointed.

The first Academy Sports in Jax is currently under construction in a new shopping area being built on the north side of Atlantic at Kernan. Christopher's has taken over the old Johnny Carino's on Atlantic. O'Charley's on Atlantic did close, but the manager had warned over 12 months prior that it was not going to stay.

While there are some closings, there are some good news too.

That thing hasn't been a McDonald's since I got to Jax in 2006!
