Swoozie's is closing antionwide because of bankruptcy.

I wonder if a local Wendy's franchise company or persons had gone under. That'd be the only thing I could think of because you rarely see fast food joints close. The Fifth Thid Bank 'COMING SOON" sign is back up where the Roosevelt Wendy's used to be by Super Target.

The Popeye's on Roosevelt near Timuquana has closed, and was recently gutted and is now open as a Dunkin Donuts. You know that place is packed every morning because of the base nearby.

I had not been to the Avenues in a while but noticed the other day that Barney's closed and there at least two other empty storefronts in the food court.

Sadly, Renna's on Baymeadows closed today.

I noticed on a recent trip to the SJTC that there is now a Dollar Store located in one of the corner locations. If I am not mistaken, this was an interior design store before. Does anyone remeber what store was there before the Dollar Store?

Doctor_K

Wasn't that some kind of wicker store or some such nonsense?

The interior design store was called DOTI - Designs of the Interior - and was located where the AT&T store is now.

DOTI is based in Ponte Vedra according to their website

There seem to be a lot of Wendy's closing recently.  Roosevelt Boulevard near NAS.  Airport Road near JIA.  Shame.  For fast food, their stuff's not bad.

For some reason, it seems like Wendy's and Checkers are the most hit hard concerning fast food closings in this city. The only Checkers I know that reopened from a hiatus is the one on Kings Rd (a former closed Rally's; I'm aware that Rally's & Checkers are under the same company.)

In a way perhaps, but IMO, CFAs is of better quality and doesn't taste like it has been rozen before. You also get a better cut of chicken breast from them anyways.

I worked at Chick-fil-A back in the 1990s.  From my experience, it is the Chick-fil-A family environment that sets it off from the other fast food places.  They are closed on Sundays, and this surely appeals to those who still can recall the days of the old Blue Laws.
As for assertions about frozen food?  Hardly!  I hand breaded many of the chicken breasts that we used in the sandwiches.  Today, they have a nice variety of fruits and other healthful alternatives to the usual 'fries with that' deal that others offer.

That is quite a list of businesses that have gone under.  Too bad.  Sign of the times .

@Timkin -- Makes you yearn for the days of Furchgott's, doesn't it? : )

Seriously!!!  :)  I hope we see a turn in this trend, but I feel it will continue this way for some time to come.

And yet.........  I see new strip malls going up in various places...some never getting completed.  But stores closing right and left.   The intersection of Atlantic/ Southside is pretty much a ghost town.

Most of the local Jacksonville Wendy's are owned by a franchisee in Michigan. Closing losing stores or marginal stores is just part of business.

I suppose that is true of any business...but you would not think fast food chains would shut down so rapidly..not one as popular as Wendy's

When the dope dealers are not slinging on the corners, you know the economy is hurting everyone. The fast food peeps are no different, no matter how cheap they make hamburgers and cheeseburgers.

Bad Ass Coffee closed. That one seriously bummed me out- their frozen drinks were the best I've ever had. We used to have Pho King Bad Ass nights where we'd go eat at PK Noodles and then head over to Bad Ass for dessert. :(
