Sad... this is the canary in the coal mine for God's sake... wake the eff up city hall... good lord...  >:( :-[ :'(
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

The downtown location went to shit years ago when they sold.  I'm surprised it lasted this long.

This. The fact that the same thing happened to their location in Jax Beach reflects more on the current state of BG than Downtown.

I had forgotten about  the sale... as with most closed places downtown... I'm sure another thriving business will snap up the location...

Sad, but I'm surprised it has taken this long. It was a weekly stop before Valentino took over. How far the place has fallen since then is the only real surprise. The two times I've visited in the last 6 years have been instantly regrettable.

Also, it appears that Edgewood Bakery is for sale. What a waste.

Maybe the team that runs Taqueria Cinco will open up a second spot?

Just landed in New Orleans on an empty stomach and saw this article while checking into the hotel before lunch.

My waist line won't agree but I'm looking forward to this concept opening!

QuoteFeaturing an elevated menu of Creole and Southern cuisine, a new upscale restaurant from the owners of award-winning The District SPR is preparing to open in the heart of downtown Jacksonville.

Dorothy's Downtown ― named in honor of its chef's grandmother ― hopes to open the first week of December at 21 E. Adams St., #100, in the space formerly occupied by the original Burrito Gallery, which closed abruptly on Feb. 7 after 18 years in business.

It will neighbor Indochine, a Thai restaurant that opened in 2010 on the second floor of the historic 114-year-old building.

Dorothy's Downtown is the second upscale restaurant concept in Jacksonville from partners Felicia D. Luke, Jorge Gonzalez, James Broy and Sharon Ashley McCaskey. The four launched The District SPR, at 2026 Walnut St. in historic Springfield, in September 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

I too am excited for this! It will complement Indochine perfectly. If we could get those two buildings next door renovated, that could be a really nice stretch of restaurants/nightlife on Adams

Burrito Gallery closed the day they brought in Valentino and Marco was no longer running the place. We used to walk to the downtown location all the time from the Southbank. RIP.

Valentino gets a lot of heat for tanking Burrito Gallery, but he doesn't get enough heat for ruining the corner of Edgewood and Post, aka the old Edgewood bakery.  Shad still gets all the blame, but he owned it for less than a year and he invested some serious money into capital improvements to the interior and exterior of the building.  Valentino bought the building in February of 2016 and promised a French Pantry, but then let the building rot for 9 years.  Just about anything would have succeeded there as long as the doors were open.  It's a miracle that French Pantry hasn't tanked, but I'm guessing that's because the prior owners stayed involved.

Not a surprise. I remember going the first couple years it was open and it was good. We even had a few work events there. But it's been a ghost town in recent years.

It's going to end up another Mexican restaurant, isn't it?

Zunzibar will be replacing Burrito Gallery

QuoteZunzibar, a concept of global flavors, seafood and sandwiches, is coming to Jacksonville. The Georgia-based restaurant concept is headed to Brooklyn Station, replacing Burrito Gallery at the site.

...

The brand started as Zunzi's as a food truck in Savannah Georgia, then evolved to have three full-service locations in Georgia and one on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
