An architectural movement that peaked during the 1960s, Mid-century modern (MCM) has increased in popularity within the preservation world in recent years. An American reflection of the International and Bauhaus movements, MCM can be found all over Jacksonville. Here are ten commercial examples of the unique architectural style, in and around Downtown Jacksonville.

I believe one of the best and largest examples was left out of this article:  The original Prudential (then Aetna, now One Call) southeastern HQ's, an equally transformative building for Jacksonville.  Sad to see them build over much of its grand front entry plaza with a multi-story parking garage and now block its riverside view with a blah apartment building.



I was also sad to see CSX "modernize" its building by covering its "Florida" blue tiles from the Atlantic Coast Line days.

This sanctuary was originally constructed for the Snyder Memorial Church in 1959.

Remember when the Coast Line Building would turn office lights on or off, and had star templates, to create a huge American Flag for the 4th of July?

Not sure when the airport photo I posted was taken but couldn't help but notice the fleet of Eastern Airlines planes.  Hard to believe they were once the largest domestic carrier and now are just a faded memory.  Another example of a big company caught flat footed and complacent.
