Back in March, News 4 Jax reported a proposal for a 28-story residential tower adjacent to the Kings Street garage. Does anyone know if this is actually in the works? Or is it yet another empty promise?

Here's what the developer said:

All of this development requires something to pull it together.

Balanky called it "vision."

"Vision without execution is just hallucination," he said.

So is he hallucinating?

QuoteIt's not a sure thing. The land is owned by the Jacksonville Transit Authority, and Balanky is in a lawsuit with JTA about land use. He wants the area to be zoned for residential units, not just business.

The developer said he's optimistic his dream will become a reality.

Developer doesn't own the land. The land is owned by JTA. The developer is in a lawsuit with JTA. Enough said. Don't wait up at night for this one.

thelakelander: I'm just going through old issues and came across this one. Has there been any more talk about this high rise proposal from a while back? If so, please share.

That's dead. Last I heard, the site was one of the original alternative locations for the JEA headquarters:

If JTA owns the property, is there any reason they don't seem interested in getting some TOD on it with how hot the market is?

There's no market for a 28 story high rise in downtown Jax. Something will eventually end up there but it won't be tall, IMO.
