‘Turbo Roundabout’ coming to Arlington intersection

The audience was quiet at first as a video showed motorcycles, cars and huge 18-wheeled rigs flowing through a computer-animated two-lane traffic circle during City Councilwoman Joyce Morgan's recent town meeting at St. Paul United Methodist Church.

Part of a presentation on a proposed $1.9 million JTA MobilityWorks project to convert the University Boulevard and Merrill Road intersection's multitude of lanes and traffic lights into a Turbo Roundabout, it would be one of the first uses of that two-lane traffic circle design in the United States if it's built.

JTA had a "virtual groundbreaking" a few days ago for the Turbo Roundabout - the intersection of Merrill and University should be under construction for about a year.
