Metropolitan Park will be the site for a rally Saturday by Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.
Gates will open at the Gator Bowl Boulevard recreational area at 12:30 p.m. and Obama will speak at 2:30 p.m., according to organizers.

The event is free but space is limited and reservations are being encouraged. Reservations can be made at fl.barackobama.com/jacksonvillechange.

Obama’s visit to Jacksonville will be his first since June, when the Democratic presidential candidate spoke at a fundraiser.

His visit follows a recent campaign stop from Republican candidate John McCain, who was in town Monday.

Unless it rains, that won't be difficult to do.  Only 3,000 showed up for McCain's event.

I hope this thing blows McCains rally right out of the water!

Go Obama!

it will really mean something if more people show up.

Not sure that it's a fair comparison when you consider Mr. McCain's was on a working Monday morning stopover that was originally expected to be a smaller scale "pancake breakfast" that had enough of a response rate to shift over to the arena.  Mr. Obama's rally, however, should provide a better venue in terms of timing & location.  As a "centrist", I attended Monday's & plan on attending Saturday's too.  What's crazy is that I anticipate Mrs. Palin's planned October visit to possibly draw more than either - go figure.......

Thanks for the warning.  I'll be sure not to go downtown that day.  Hopefully the Obama supporters wont leave too much litter in front of my building.

I think that is so funny! We do lots of neighborhood cleanups and we have invited both McCain's campaign and Obama's campaign to help get our community clean. Guess who is always willing to help with the community and pick up litter? OBAMA'S peeps!

I will be there, after our International Coastal Cleanup with Obama supporters!

Most people work on Monday mornings...like me.....so I imagine there were thousands of others like me who would have loved to go to McCains rally, but unfortunatley couldnt make it. Even so a few thousand on Monday morning isnt that bad. Maybe I can make it to see Palin!!! ;D

hey...but there will be a tough choice on Saturday too....UF game is at 3:30pm and FSU plays in Tally at 7pm....I would love tyo go see Obamac, but since he will probably be late, I can't do that and go to Tally.

And yes, in the fall, football is more important  ;D

I'll save you a trip:

"I told Congress thanks but no thanks on that bridge to nowhere."

"I put my private jet on eBay."

"I fired our personal chef."

do you think BHO will say anything original? Is he still saying he isn't a typical old politician?
When you put clowns in charge, don't be surprised when a circus breaks out

never argue with an idiot, he'll drag you down to his level and clobber you with his experience

Some fact checking on Palin's claims:

"I told Congress thanks but no thanks on that bridge to nowhere."
---note true. She actually lobbied for it, but eventually was against once it became a symbol of pork. She still kept the money, ear-marked for the project and used it on other spending projects.

"I put my private jet on eBay."
----not true. She sold it, at a large loss , on the private market

"I fired our personal chef."
---not true. He was transferred to another part of the state government.
