Took my second trip to this place in a matter of weeks.. Every time I go in there its either totally empty or very sparsely populated.  C'mon, people of Riverside, I know the Sushi Cafe has a lock on you, but give this place a chance!!  The staff is efficient and courteous, and the food, is at least I think, better than the Sushi Cafe.

Give it a try, what have you got to lose?

Sumo Sushi is located in the Whiteway Corner building across from European Street/Walgreens.

i was there about a week ago.  it was very good.  much better than sushi cafe.  almost as good as sake house.  if i had to rank them on a 10 point scale, i would say that sake house is a 9, sumo is an 8, and sushi cafe is a 5.

Yeah, no joke.  A ssomeone said somewhere else, cold we expand our ethic eating choices please? Indian? Thai? Something more than sushi.

And I totally agree about sushi cafe-- i have NO idea what the fuss is over that place.

I have been here 4 or 5 times. I really like it. It is one of the best sushi places I have been to locally and every time I have gone in there, they have given my friends and I a free appetizer which is a pretty nice bonus.  They also serve cold sake, not just hot.

We tried this place once and have not gone back. The food was good but the service was horrible. We waited for about an hour before we ever got our food. And when they brought mine out they gave me a different customers dish. I started eating eating because I thought they had just messed up my order, but I didn't want to cause any trouble, but when they figured out that they had given me somebody elses dish they promptly took it away and I watched as they gave it to the other customer. We ended up leaving after seeing that and vowed never to go back. Now the food was good, at least the portion I had eaten, but after that experience I will not go back. Also that happened to me in another sushi place in New York a few months back as well.

I would have to agree with Mr. Compound on that one!

Ps... I love Sushi Cafe :-)

For the whiners out there, would you rather have a choice of sushi restaurants or have none at all, or just one?

Lord, must we be so critical.

Actually, I dont like Sumo Sushi as much as Sushi Cafe.  I guess this is just a matter of subjective taste as opinions seem to be all over the place in the Riverside Sushi Wars.

I'm in love with Sumo Sushi.  The owner is extremely nice and the sushi chefs are great.  In fact, I've told everyone to go there so far.  I'll most likely be going again this week  ;D ;D Anyone care to join me?

Ive not been to Sumo yet, but I think Sake House is 10x better than Sushi Cafe.

Sake House is clearly the best IMO.  Easy E... I know it isn't in Riverside, but if you want Indian, it seems you have to go to what I guess is our own "Little India" in the Baymeadows/Southside Blvd. area.  There are many Indian dining options there along with an Indian grocery.  I cannot say I am overly impressed with any of them, but they certainly get the job done well enough.

I live near Sumo Sushi and they NEVER have their back door closed. They don't even have a screened door. That really bothers me, especially with all the insects flying into the kitchen.

Sumo sushi is great. That, along with Mount Fuji, are my two fav's.

Sushi cafe sucks, the rolls are so bland and uninventive. And I can't believe Koja Sushi at the Landing just got nominated "Best Sushi in Jacksonville". Is Folio Weekly NUTS? Wonder who got bribed for that...
