QuoteAl's Pizza, an institution in Atlantic Beach for 25 years, is getting a major transformation. Actually, there are two changes.

First of all Al's Pizza is moving from the Atlantic Beach Town Center and in its place will go a Southern bistro, also operated by Al's Pizza owner Al Mansur.

The pizza restaurant is moving around the corner and just down the street to 240 3rd St. in Neptune Beach, into a building that was originally a Taco Bell but has seen a series of restaurants come and go since. But there, it will be called Al's Craft Pizza Co., with more of an emphasis craft beer and craft pizza, said Mansur. No more small, medium and large - all the pizzas will be 12 inches. They're going to be made with flour and tomatoes imported from Italy.

Sounds like V Pizza is eating their lunch, so to speak

It always amazes me when people setup restaurants in buildings with a history of previous restaurants failing.

I've always felt LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION does mean something

Al's must be confident

I wouldn't go that far, V is less than spectacular in my opinion and is quite over-priced. This is part of a larger trend of build your own Neapolitan style pizzerias. Even Chipotle has gotten in to the game with Pizzeria Locale, which I think influenced V. Only, Pizzeria Locale's most expensive pie is 8.50 and V's is a whopping $18. I've had both and Chipotle is doing it right.

Pretty sure Al makes more than half of his dollar$ through real estate, not Pizza.  Al's Pizza is similar to Pizza Palace and other generic commercial pizza places, Papa John's or Dominoes.  I like the sound of the new concept.

V Pizza imports nearly everything to make the dough. And many of the toppings. It's one of my favorites, and it does cost more.

I'll keep going however.

I go back home to the northeast when I want pizza, or I make my own.  Although, the tap water here is pretty good for dough.

Pizzeria Locale imports most of their ingredients too. Including heavy bags of flour from Italy. Now, one could argue they are eating the costs but I doubt that would last long, especially with the company's recent troubles. I just can't justify paying 15 bucks for a ten inch pizza even with the best ingredients.
