QuoteSaucy Kitchen has a big catering business and three cafes going, but now owner Daryl Berman is opening his first full-fledged restaurant. It's going in on Hendricks Avenue in San Marco, where Jersey Mike's Subs closed a couple months ago.

The business started 13 years ago as a corporate catering service and Berman said that's still the bulk of his business, serving 400 to 600 people a day. But he does have the three cafes on Gate Parkway, Regency Square Boulevard and Bowden Road. They focus on lunch business for nearby office buildings.

"We've had people ask about franchising opportunities," he said. "But you couldn't make it just doing lunches without our catering."

So the San Marco restaurant will be a prototype of sorts, to see if that model works. He's going to expand the menu beyond the cafes' limited lunches and be open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. most days, but later on weekends. Sunday will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for brunch.

Opening is expected in early February.

I'm excited for this. Does anybody know why the Jersey Mike's closed? It always seemed busy when I was there.

The owner was quoted saying the rent had increased and they were always fighting for parking. Now that LaNopalera moved down the street it won't be such a problem.
