Chomp Chomp is moving to Avondale because the landlord jacked up the rent 75%.  I'm guessing something similar happened to Burro Bar.

Really sad. But yeah, I heard the main reason they are leaving is due to the rent hike but obviously everything else stated is true too. The city needs to get serious about investing in Downtown and soon! Although, if there is a rent hike that must mean that someone else is actively scouting the spot who is willing to pay for it. Otherwise, why would the landlord prefer vacancy over something? I've also heard that Strata is looking to open a venue so maybe this is it? So many questions.

Yeah.  I hope it's a good location for them, but it sucks for DT.  I ride my bike there from Riverside pretty often.  It's the only place I like to go on a DT weeknight, because I'm not drinking or dressed for aggressive hump-dancing.  Guess it's time to pull out the loose pants  :P

Yeah, I would imagine it means someone has shown interest in that spot.

The Elbow is dead. Call it the new Trio instead since there are only three bars open every weekend  :-[  ;D

Riverside is where the bar scene is at and 5 Points is the area really gaining ground over the last 18 months along with King St.

Also, I have said for years that any successful strip of bars will have to be on Laura/Adams/Forsyth corridor there with the most density and people around.

The owner of Burro basically said that in his comments due to the special events in Hemming and on Laura.

Wasn't it not too long ago that the Mayor said that no investments of any kind Downtown were going to happen until after the Pension was fixed? Bet it's something to do with that, too.

This is sad news. Even more sad for me that Chomp Chomp is moving as I ride my bike there often for a late night fix. I'm not sure if Burro Bar ever quite found a niche that it could grow and cement it's place on the scene though like a Dos Gatos or Marks did. Another dagger is while craft and local beers are cool, most patrons want the option of having their choice of liquors as well. Then when you compare this with 1904 music hall which doesn't have liquor, but makes up for it with a bigger stage,  an amazing outdoor space and better sound quality for gigs, the writing was on the wall for Burro. If only Chomp Chomp could move next door in its place, keep the bar, add tables and more burgers..tada! Niche.

Chomp Chomp's owners addressed that, either in the article or on FB yesterday, saying that the rent for Burro was just too high for them to even make a go of it.
