QuoteTALLAHASSEE | Florida Gov. Rick Scott wants one of America's most prestigious universities to move its campus south to the Sunshine State.

Scott on Tuesday urged Yale University to ditch Connecticut and relocate its campus. The Republican explained that Connecticut legislators are considering a bill that would tax Yale's massive university endowment.

Scott said in a statement that Florida would "welcome a world-renowned university" and promised that the state wouldn't impose taxes on the endowment.

He also urged other businesses in Connecticut to consider moving to Florida.

But the Ivy League institution isn't planning to take up Scott's invitation.

Yale spokesman Tom Conroy says that while it's "wonderful to be recognized as an outstanding asset," it has been mutually beneficial for Yale to be located in Connecticut for 300 years.

This is the absolute stupidest, most pandering bullshit.  Scott and his crowd apparently don't even understand the purpose, or basis, for taxes.  It's just "oh, its a tax? It's bad."  I really, really hate him so much. I have a visceral reaction every time I see his ghoul-like face.

He just signed the medical marijuana law, no one said a word. I was kind of surprised.

As far as Yale goes, that endowment can pay for a lot of lobbyists, I think it is safe for now.

Unfortunately, the medical marijuana law is for terminally I'll patients only. Very sad.

Meanwhile, he got in to office with less than 50% of the vote, and marijuana got close to 60 and lost.

I can't wait until this idiot is gone.

I am afraid that up in Connecticut, this is probably what they associate with Florida

I'm pretty sure their government, like ours, is just as incompetent:

Yale will eat the endowment tax and will stay close to America's financial and cultural headquarters . . . NYC.  Its culture does not really fit here in Florida which is more important than any tax the state may or may not put on them.

I think O'Neil is more forgivable than Flordia.

From what I hear, Alvin Brown was also there to announce his two-year plan to bring the NBA to Jacksonville.

I think Yale is what we need to help revitalize the Laura Street Trio, maybe Rick's pal Tony Sleiman will offer up the landing for this cause as well.

We should be talking about this in the Downtown Game Changer thread.
