In September, the ship repair company with facilities at Mayport Naval Station and off of Heckscher Drive, said it would lay off 200 employees.

BAE Systems is laying off 30 employees between now and April.

Only 100 employees actually needed to be let go, but in January, the company said it would have to lay off another 300 employees, said spokesman Karl Johnson.

The first 30 of those 300 employees are being notified now, he said. Another round of layoffs could happen in May, and 180 employees out of the 660 at the shipyards are remaining on WARN notice.

"We recognize that the workforce reduction will impact 30 talented men and women on our team," the company said in its statement. "We greatly appreciate the hard work and dedication of the employees who are leaving our organization today..."

Great way to motivate a work force.  Only needed to let 100 go, but looks like a total of 400.
