QuoteJACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- An armed robber held up a Riverside Thai restaurant at gunpoint Thursday night, getting away with cash from the business and customers, police on scene told First Coast News.

About 8:25 p.m., a black male wearing dark clothing walked into Pattaya Thai Grille at King and Herschel streets, pointing a gun at employees and customers and demanding cash, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

The suspect got away with some money and took off down Herschel Street, witnesses told investigators. A pair of neighbors told First Coast News they saw a man running out of the restaurant, yelling, "Don't try me."

And, that $115 will save Jacksonville from financial ruin. - Mayor John Peyton

"This is a game-changer. This is what I mean when I say taking Jacksonville to the next level."

And this is why we can't have nice things.

Most relaxed arm robbery in history no doubt.  One girl was still deciding on her order during it...

RAP will be holding CCW licensing classes at Buckman House next week, following their strategic plan to ensure neighborhood safety.

He must not have been a part of the Riverside "safety dance" down King Street a month ago.

Captain Zissou

He escaped on foot and still got away?  What is this, the 1930s?

Bill Hoff

Feel bad for the owners. I believe their window was smashed in shortly after opening too.

This is a surprise? When did you last see cops patroling this incredibly busy commercial area?

Riverside/Avondale has two "Walking Beat" officers assigned during the daytime Monday-Saturday.  They don't actually walk it just means that they do no answer calls outside the District.  One rides in the golf cart and one in a regular patrol car.  Sometimes they ride together in the golf cart.  The assignment is usually given to officers who are in the last four or five years before retirement and who have demonstrated an outstanding ability to interact with the public.  It's also sort of an "atta-boy" reward; a recognition by their superiors that they are recognized as having been way above average in their careers.

We have had some really outstanding officers in this position in the last ten years or so.  They attend all of the merchant's association meetings, all of the SHADCO meetings and go out of their way to make sure they meet all of the business owners and give them their direct cellphone numbers.  It's a great example of community policing at its best.

We have in the past couple of months lost two of the very best to retirement,  T.C. Edwards and Mike Duckworth.  Their replacements are going to have some very big shoes to fill.  Officer Duckworth was the officer who put in months of overtime and extra effort to arrest the graffiti gang that was doing so much damage.

You sound pretty informed DW. Do you know if they do this in other hoods or are you familiar with this one because its your hood? Curious as to how many golf carts JSO has out there in other communities

I imagine the perp can out run a golf cart. Are the officers fit or overweight?
Cops in a golf cart are more likely to write a parking ticket than to actually prevent a real crime.

At least we know Sweet Theory is safe.
