Curry is calling for $402 million to fund the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, which includes 32 administrative employees, 897 corrections personnel, 389 working in investigations and homeland security and more than 1,200 patrol and enforcement officers.  Hello when I posted this quote I thought that Lenny wanted this many more cops and personnel. I made a Mistake I didn't read the WJXT story I pulled the trigger to fast. I'm human I do make misjudgements & mistakes. But one member here on metrojacksonville let me know of my mistake. And I thanked him in private messages.

Some people think crime is also a problem worth dealing with in Jacksonville.

Crime is but do we really need to go from 42 officers to 1200? What I should have said was I thought we were going from wanting to hire 42 COPS but now he wanted 1200 COPS? I read the story wrong on WJXT. But I'm not prefect this was my mistake. So the rest of what I wrote I'm now going to remove. I do want to thank one MetroJacksonville Member that was kind and not a DICK to point out my mistake and I thanked him in Private Message. Thank You

The budget only adds 40 officers and 40 community service officers, which is still less than has been cut.

Then why is Lenny asking for "Curry is calling for $402 million to fund the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, which includes 32 administrative employees, 897 corrections personnel, 389 working in investigations and homeland security and more than 1,200 patrol and enforcement officers.# If he is only getting 40 cops & 40 CSO then the rest of these numbers are pure bullshit?

Uh, the rest are the people already working for the JSO.
Jesus Christ we have this many police officers and staff already on the job! And they want more officers I wouldn't give them anymore....p.s. I thought he wanted 1200 more officers which would have been a true police state. I read this wrong I make mistake. But I still don't like some businesses giving free lunches to some JSO officers. No one gives me a free lunch.

^ so you make this judgement based purely on # of existing officers?  Do you know what the ratio is?  How about ours compared with other simuilar cities?

Couldn't a large increase in the police force also be represented by showing a large 'projected' decrease in the pension fund liability?

Crime is but do we really need to go from 42 officers to 1200? This is just nuts! And everyone of these officers would be put on the million dollar pension plans? Give us a break! Being a Police Officer is a good job with a lot of benefits once your career gets going. But no one is forced to become a police officer. Get rid of the bad officers that believe in their little minds they're Gods. And then get the city council to hire 300 patrol and enforcement officers and give the other money to the city of Jacksonville for crime prevention if you don't want the libraries to be helped out. And stop these free lunches that McDonalds gives out to Officers what is up with this. I saw it first hand several times last year. I work and I pay for my own lunches so should each and every officer that works for the JSO!

LMAO that you thought a city the size of Jax had 42 officers  ;D

There are normally about 25 just patrolling DT  8)

ProjectMaximus

There's more than 42 handling the traffic at First Baptist every Sunday  ;)

I didn't think that, I did make a mistake that he wanted to hire 1200 officers. I didn't read the story on WJXT. I saw this as part of his budget plans as he wanted to have 1200 more cops. But another member here on metrojacksonville pointed this info out to me. That I was reading the story wrong. I knew all along Jacksonville had more then 42 cops. I made a mistake do you? Peace to most but you can G.F.Y. :)

Steve

You really don't want to move to NY then. I think they have about 35,000 sworn officers:)

BTW, they also have 9 million people and many security issues we don't have because of their stature as the largest city in the US.
