Local fashion designer in talks to purchase iconic Pearl Club

Fashion designer and Jacksonville native Alyssa Key, owner of the successful Love Brigade clothing line in New York, is in negotiations to purchase the former Pearl Club building in the historic Springfield district.

Key's plans for the space include a "co-op space representing the arts, studios upstairs and retail (maybe a coffee shop) downstairs, event space in the back and possibly a food truck yard on the empty lot," she said in a Facebook message.

The 5,591-square-foot building at 1101 Main St. has a sale price of $249,000, according to the listing on Prime Realty's website.

Will Kaiser, who paid $195,000 for the building last year, had plans to turn it into a yoga studio and eatery. Kaiser said those plans collapsed due to problems obtaining support from the city's Northwest Economic Development Trust Fund, which provides capital for project development in Northwest Jacksonville.
