Halsema Building Crackrock Down?

Apparently the historic Halsema Building on 8th Street has become the focus of city and police efforts to help stem the resurgent crack trade on the east side of 8th Street.

Reports are flooding in that the dealer residents have rewired the building in order to illegally provide electricity to tenants who are no longer eligible for electrical service and that the city is preparing action against the historic structure which at one time served as the headquarters for SPAR.

Can I ask where the reports are flooding in to? Would a public records request turn them up?

Driven1 is obsessed with contradicting anything I post.  He has been making similar posts for months now.   You should see his embarrassing posts in the Arts section.
Again, I will not participate in personal attacks.  But please do not let that stop you Stephendare.

DowntownDweller - Do your due diligence and then decide who to believe.  Fact is, law enforcement and 4 different people from the community have confirmed what I am telling you.  That is all I have to say.

You posted you were told this "activity" had moved two blocks North. That is what I am referencing. If it is true that you were told this then that is just unacceptable. Someone "moved the activity" two blocks north into a more residential area with a school???!!!

There must have been a lot of editing, deleting or cross-posting as this thread is hard to follow.

I don't know who invoked the name of Officer S. Johnson from the above post but a few of us had that name thrown at us claiming to be the uncle of one of the fine upstanding young hoodrats in the full car parked in front of the Speedway at 8th & Perry very late one night (store closed). They claimed they were parked there to change their oil, must have been hard to do with all of them sitting inside the vehicle.

Would anyone care to fill us in on the missing parts of this thread?

Basically nvrenuf, I spoke with Officer Johnson (I'm not sure - i doubt it - that it is the same as the uncle of the hoodrat you spoke with :) ) who confirmed today that any and all (as much as can be possibly known in good faith) drug dealing activity at this location has ceased.  The officer (who I am friends with and patrols the area once in a while even on off-duty hours as a service to the community) indicated to me that the activity MAY have moved a couple blocks away and that the police are pursuing leads in that area.

Now THAT is direct from a local law enforcement officer.  We are still waiting on the source of these alleged "reports" that are "flooding in" that speak contrary to this information.

Now I will probably be personally attacked, but I am only coming on here to convey pertinent information.  I really don't care.  If it has to do with the betterment of the community and providing real, accurate information in the community, then I am willing to take a couple of cheap shots from the peanut gallery.  ;)

You specifically cited her name as S. Johnson earlier....

Personal eyewitnesses of drug dealing are being reported in this very thread, (I am one of the witnesses to a deal in fact) and your story has changed from 'the police say the building is abandoned and the drug and prostitute activity has moved two blocks north' to an 'indication' that the activity 'may' have moved a 'couple of blocks away' after Downtown Dweller pointed out that the area you were claiming was an elementary school.

By the way, the building is NOT 'abandoned', it is fully occupied with a mix of businesses downstairs and residential apartments upstairs.

You were lying then, and you are lying now.

S. Johnson reports in for duty tonight at 6.   The zone office number is 924-5361.

Perhaps your 'direct' 'friend' and source can explain to you why she never spoke to you about the problem?

It is S. Johnson.   Thank you for confirming:

1) That Officer Johnson is there.
2) That she works THAT specific area.
3) That we spoke earlier.

Now, I will not personally attack you as you have repeatedly done on here.  All I will say is that we are ALL STILL awaiting the alleged source of "reports flooding in" - that you mentioned in the original post.

Again, I am just trying to offer a community service as you REPEATEDLY personally attack me.  If it is not me, it seems it is RiversideGator - or TUFSU1 - or DowntownParks that you are attacking.  If I ask politely, will you please stop attacking me?

Yikes, didn't realize what I was stepping in. Trying to wipe that big pile off my shoes now.

I'm not questionig the existence of Ofc Johnson, there was one when we looked in public records for city employees. The real question was if he was related to the hoodrats or just the most recent name they came up with from likely frequent run-ins with JSO.

Regarding this building, I see plenty of people hanging out on 8th on the Market/Liberty/Walnut corners that I wouldn't invite to my house. For that matter I see plenty directly across from my house that I wouldn't want closer either.  ;D

We regularly attend ShAdCo meetings to report the "special" areas and get them a little extra love. JSO has been very responsive.

WELL, I JUST THINK WHOEVER OWNS THIS BUILDING IS A MAJOR PIECE OF CRAP AND NEEDS TO BE RAN OUT OF TOWN.  DOES ANYONE KNOW WHO OWNS THIS BUILDING?  THE DEVIL HIMSELF?

RiversideGator

Perhaps it is owned by Craig van Horne:   :D :D

Symbiosis Investments is the proud owner of record for everything on the north side of 8th E between Hubbard and Market except for 101 at the corner of Hubbard & 8th. But I suspect most of you knew that already.  ::)

What's SPAR's position?  Is there a discussion about this incident on their website?
