Wild boar terrorizing Jacksonville neighborhood

The wild animal has been roaming the Sutton Lakes subdivision for about two weeks, said Tanyika Powell, who lives in the 2100 block of Alfa Romeo Drive. Powell said her next door neighbor has hired hunters to trap the boar, but it still hasn't been captured.

Powell, who captured the animal on video, said it's strange to see the animal roaming the neighborhood in broad daylight. The boar's behavior has left her scared to leave the house, she added.

"Yesterday someone knock(ed) on (our) door and told us our pig was sitting on the porch and they saw him go around the back of the house," Powell told FCN in an e-mail.

Video shows the boar ripping up the lawn in front of a home, leaving a trail of uprooted sod in its wake. The animal doesn't appear to be fazed by Powell stopping to record it. With some verbal nudging from Powell, though, it appears to make a run for a lawn across the street.

First Coast News has reached out to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. We'll update this story when we hear back from the agency.

In this "well-armed" city I'm surprised we don't have a bar-b-q already fired up.
