Military devices found in Avondale home

Bomb squad technicians are investigating what the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office described as military devices found at an Avondale house on Monday afternoon.

Police say Animal Care and Protective Services was originally called to a report of multiple cats at a home on Oak Street near the intersection with Glendale Street at about 11 a.m. When they found military devices, the JSO bomb squad was called.

Several adjacent homes were evacuated while technicians worked to move and neutralize the devices.

The scene is near Fishweir Elementary School.

"One of the teachers got an alert on her cellphone. It said there's a bomb squad set up on Oak Street," said resident Trina Malloy. "That's not a real great thing to have in your neighbor. We've all been here 30-, 40-plus years and we've never had anything like this."

Channel 4 was told the homeowner has been in the hospital with an extended illness. At last count, 15 cats had been found in the house. It's uncertain what was done with them.

"Military devices"........don't necessarily mean bombs or active bombs. It could be a BDU-33. Looks like a bomb, flys like a bomb but don't explode. Many were sold as surplus. Makes an interesting door stop.

Shucks,in a SHTF Scenario,I bet being surrounded by Avondale NIMBY way better than being out on far Westside empty acreage.
