QuoteOn the retail end of the development, Weingarten spent the last 18 months permitting its 23 acres for Epic Village and has begun the site work that will lead to construction, said Lynn Dehlinger, regional development director for Weingarten's Orlando office.

Epic's building will include 16 screens with stadium seating and Dolby Digital sound, and rooms for parties.

The "village" of 15 shops and a few restaurants will total 17,896 square feet in the first phase. Its retail mix is likely to include fast food, ice cream and game shops and a tanning facility, Dehlinger said.

A second phase of 30,000 square feet should be under construction next spring and include a book store and wine shop.

This site plan looks like it has changed, for the better.

The crews have been back on site over the last few weeks.  I passed by it yesterday and it looks like much of the grading is finished and utility work is about half way completed.

... Shouldn't this go in the St. Johns County board?

There has been some movement on the site over the last couple weeks.  Looks like things are back up and running.

Leaves a lot to be desired...

This is the proposed location for the residential portion.

Maybe the site plan isn't spectacular but doesn't that area need a theater?

BADLY!!  There is only a 6 screen theatre at the dying Ponce Mall and the IMAX at WGV in the entire county!

I can't find any infor on the second phase retail development.  If that is done properly, the development could look pretty descent (save the outparcels).  I'm hoping the phase 2 retail will front "Epic Blvd" and "Movie St." with angled parking up front and lots in the rear, similar to SJTC.  The outparcels will likely be typical suburban chain layouts.

Depending on the location and design of the outparcel buildings, the plan may not be so bad.  I'm glad to see that this development is finally moving forward.

The theatre is officially vertical.  Tilt-up construction started two days ago and almost all of the panels are already in place.

The theatre is well on its way towards a grand opening in the next month or two.  Also, work on the McDonalds has started.

Good news is that there will be 6 retail/dining spaces attached to the right hand side of the exterior of the theater.  As part of a future phase, tenant spaces will be indluded on the other side as well.

Tenants that are singed include:
- Lee Spa Nails
- SunDaze Tanning
- DeLeon Pizza
- PaPa's Grill

The theatre is OPEN!!!!!!

The phase one shops listed above should be open in the next month or so.

There is still plenty of site work left and high hopes of the phase 2 "lifestyle" portion being developed in the near future.
