Regency area Olive Garden destroyed by fire.

Not a culinary destination for me but you have to feel for the employees who are out of a job.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Fire crews are on the scene of smoke billowing from the roof of a Jacksonville restaurant. JFRD reports it received a call to the Olive Garden on Atlantic Boulevard, across from Regency Mall, around 2:40 a.m.

Fire crews said the restaurant is a total loss.

I would think Darden Corp. is self insured for this type of thing so they might decide not to rebuild.

I'd be very surprised if they didn't rebuild. They announced last week they were going to do a $60,000 renovation to this location. I'm on my phone so I can't look it up right now. That place is ALWAYS packed, I would say even busier than Southside.

Olive Garden is renovating its Regency area restaurant. Contractor Big Service Inc. is providing interior and exterior accessibility upgrades, at 2,500 square feet, at a project cost of $60,000.

The city also has been reviewing plans for renovations for the 6050 Youngerman Circle restaurant, considered the Orange Park location, and the 10144 Philips Highway store, in The Avenues area.

Olive Garden has said the three are being considered for remodeling. The Regency, Orange Park and Avenues restaurants were built in 1990-91.

The good news is they can start from scratch and add the new design into the build. I would think that would almost be easier than renovating an existing structure trying to work around crowds, etc.

Hopefully they rebuild the Tuscan Farmhouse style in its place!  Jacksonville needs a better looking Olive Garden already.
 

Maybe this will encourage them to update Orange Park and the Avenues as well.

It's pretty stunning how busy that location is. I assume they will rebuild and do it rather quickly.

I always was under the impression that a total loss isn't salvageable. I obviously was wrong, as that's specifically a 'constructive total loss'. Man I love wiki, you learn something new everyday.

Poor Olive Garden, it looks like they had a fire in Monroe just 5 days ago (on the 22nd). They said they hope to be open by the end of the year! That's an awfully long time:

They haven't said if the Regency one will be rebuilt:

"We are extremely thankful no one was inside the restaurant at the time of the fire and we appreciate the efforts of all the first responders involved and are grateful they are all safe," Olive Garden said in a statement. "Right now, the well-being of our team members is our number one priority. With help from other Olive Garden locations as well as other Darden restaurants in Jacksonville, we will offer job placement support to all of the employees who were affected."

There are three other area Olive Garden restaurants, and other Darden restaurants that may take in the 100 employees are Red Lobster, Longhorn, Bahama Breeze, Seasons 52 and Capital Grille.

A spokesman said there was no word on plans to rebuild the 24-year-old restaurant.
