More beer for Jax: local craft brewers expanding and another opening soon

It's a story that's being repeated over and over in Jacksonville and elsewhere: People want more-flavorful beer and they want it made where they live.

So Engine 15 Brewing Co. is building a new brewery because it's outgrown the one it has. Intuition Ale Works is looking for a place to do the same thing. Bold City Brewery is more than doubling its size on Rosselle Street.

Pinglehead Brewing at Brewer's Pizza has more than tripled its brewing capacity in the three years since it opened in Orange Park, and the owners are considering moving to a larger space. Green Room Brewing added larger tanks within a year of opening in Jacksonville Beach. So did Mile Marker Brewing in St. Augustine.

And new breweries keep opening. Aardwolf started brewing four months ago in San Marco. Veterans United Craft Brewery plans to open off Southside Boulevard in May.

That's a lot of beer. How far can it go before there are too many, before Jacksonville becomes oversaturated, awash in India pale ales and Berliner weiss?

The issue at the pinnacle is NOT competition its distribution. The BS middleman that the brewers have to go through is old, outdated, and you people who discuss Good Ol Boy network, well that crap is good ol boy network here in Florida.

It sucks, on a regular basis that when I go to the Garage and they are out of People's Pale Ale AND I-10, they can't call up Ben and get more, because they have to go through some IDIOT distributor who won't pick up their phone and won't deliver to them until next Tuesday, because "that's the way we've always done it".

Was it ever officially alive?  The same question probably applies to any project intended for land currently owned by COJ.

Anyone know anything about Veterans United Craft Brewery? A brewery on Southside sounds relevant to my interests.
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

Perhaps it never was alive but got quite a bit of mention in here and it's own thread.  Bottom line it looks like Intuition is 0 for 2 with the city of COJ with the no go at shipyards previously.  Perhaps their next search should not include any COJ property unless thinking of some good deal to be made with the city.

Just heard about this Saturday before the story broke in the T-U. Seems that the place will be off Baymeadows. Have hear rumblings that someone was looking into a Southside brewery for several months. Sounds like this is it.

Hang on Jacksonville! According to Randall O'Toole, the anti streetcar/light rail/Amtrak mouthpiece for Cato, Heritage, Liberty and other 'think tanks,' that 10 BILLION in new development along the streetcar lines in Portland is all due to the craft beer phenomenon.

Cool, another win for Baymeadows, which continues to reinvent itself.

Not as close to my work as I'd prefer but that's still awesome nonetheless. So we have 7 operational production breweries with Engine 15's second one coming soon. Veterans United would make 9. We're really kicking ass and taking names in the craft beer department.
