The transformation of Hendricks Avenue continues.

San Marco's Hendricks Avenue continues to grow as a restaurant row. Among the latest entries is Veloce Pizzeria Napoletana, which intends to open at 1406 Hendricks Ave., at the Nira Street intersection.

"Let us bring Italy to you: experience authentic Neapolitan pizza made with the freshest ingredients imported from the most romantic country in the world," says its Facebook page, which was created Aug. 22.

The VelocePizza.com website features a countdown clock.

The Facebook page describes the food and focuses on the arrival of its artisan wood ovens.

"An important tool in our arsenal of pizza-making, these ovens are hand-built to reach a temperature of over 900 degrees," it says.

Sounds good; let's just hope reality lives up to their social media hype.

I hope it does well, there isn't a great pizza place in San Marco.  That said, the location is a little segregated from everything else, being the only restaurant between the tracks and the interstate (I know in reality it isnt, but visually it is).

I'm stoked about this. I love it when stuff opens up by my house.
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

A little more info from Gary Mills at the Times Union:

QuoteAccording to a food service plan approved a week ago by the state's Division of Hotels and Restaurants, Veloce will offer seating for more than 150, including a 50-plus-seat bar area and 32-seat enclosed patio.

The restaurant's kitchen will include three artisan wood ovens that, when heated to 900 degrees, can cook pizzas in just 60 seconds. (Veloce is Italian for "quick" or "fast.") Dough will be made at a special station just inside the entrance that includes three large mixers and a large dough table.
