Southside generating property

Right now, the old power plant land is a gaping empty space in downtown. How much would it cost to 'spruce up' the land and make it into a public space, a la Central Park? It is a pristine location, on the river and a block or so from a skyway stop. The way the city is operating right now, I'm afraid part of that 9 million dollars the council wants back could be used to turn it into another parking lot. Also, a small extension would connect the lot to the riverwalk. Any suggestions?

From what I understand, they did some cleanup work but won't provide a guarantee that it was all removed.

I don't even think of it as downtown...and it is a pretty large block to the skyway station...more like 600' to the closest point

I'd like us to attempt to improve and properly maintain the public spaces we already have before we start adding new ones. Also, don't worry about someone turning that property into a parking lot.  That would be a huge money loser.

Public, Private, Partnership- Still trying to figure this one out. Another Super Duper potential kayak launch that was on a Super Duper secret FIND list and I affectionately call this location the Jacksonville's Downtown International Redneck kayak launch that is next to the School Board and Riverwalk and right next to the brand new Country Boy fence that was just installed at the JEA property. What was wrong with the old fence? Who is the new guy at JEA? There is no new guy?

Seriously, How much did we just spend on a new fence for this JEA property? Q&A with JEA. Anyone.

Mr. Wallace the official new guy in 3 days let's take a boat ride from this location and go to the $600,000 (JEA Riverfront Home) I could be higher or lower on this one and someone correct me on this but the point is we'll take it to this and there has to be some kind of future Public, Private, Partnership benefit with this. VISIT JACKSONVILLE!

JEA owns it, but if you are sitting on a cool $32M it could be yours.

There are all kinds of credits and incentives for brownfields redevelopment. If there is ever a market for it, the contamination aspect shouldn't be a dealbreaker.

I am sure you are right that there is contamination at the site, you don't operate a power plant for that long and not get some type of soil contamination. There are a number of contaminated sites between the river and I-95 in that area.
