Over recent years, our work environment has evolved to one wherein there are fewer jobs, not only for the untrained, but for the trained and educated as well.  This trend moves our society toward one having more individuals in desperation, toward dependency, toward homelessness and sometimes, as a result of great need for money, food, or drugs -- to thievery.

But thievery has always been with us, engaged by some who seem to think that the owners will not really miss items simply because they can easily replace them.  For some, thievery is fun and exciting, and even a challenge to their resources of creativity and courage.  As a side, observe the thievery in wall street, the banks, and the club of rich elites.

And for some, the intake of hard drugs becomes just as important as the intake of food.  Some of these individuals, addicted to drugs, cannot even hold a job during great economic times, when jobs are plentiful.  Desperation ensues in their lives, and as a result, thievery.

In any case, the most important necessity for living is food, which for some very small increment of the population includes drugs; and the second important thing is shelter.  After these too necessities, the mix is spread to secondary needs.

Thievery might be viewed by some as a method of forced income or wealth distribution.  And some might view it as a form of charity, with the active component of taking, instead of giving.

Thievery increases proportionately as the economy descends to higher rates of joblessness, and increases further as a societal structure increasingly fails to assist those suffering from it.

In the end, society, the wealthy, and those still hanging onto a middle class status, will pay, whether they pay by increased fairness, increased wealth distribution via increased taxes, or whether they pay by increased wealth distribution by thievery.

Fundamentally, we have little justice in our society.  And for this we will pay, for in the end, after all the games are played, after all the lies and bullshit is distributed so clearly that even the idiot can comprehend, there will be justice.  So relax... the ride will be fun.  ;)

Years ago, an employee working the night shift at a big box retailer got off work that morning and was walking to his bus stop. He proceeded to walk through the adjoining gas station, saw my son walk over to pay for his gas when he decided to peek in his truck, saw his Blackberry on the seat and took it.

My son came home right away to call me and using GPS I found the phone still waiting for the bus at the stop. But before he could drive back up to the stop, the thief got aboard the JTA bus and proceeded on.

The phone stopped momentarily at the Regency Mall bus transfer area before getting on another bus. Again using GPS I followed the phone over the Matthews Bridge to the Rosa Parks Station where it sat for awhile. Moments later it moved on again and it ended up at an apartment complex off Myrtle.

I sent a text saying that if they gave the phone to the manager at the store next to the apts. no questions would be asked. No response. Called the carrier, reported it stolen, had them shut off service.

However, the phone was still reporting its GPS position so for grins I looked to see where it would end up. That night it ended up in a house in Avondale, so I called JSO to see what were the options for recovery. They said if I provided them with an address, they would go get it. Fearing a GPS position that could be off by as much as 50 yards, I decided to not let JSO start knocking down doors over a cell phone.

The next day the phone ended up at what I would describe as a drug shack near MLK and 95. Soon after the GPS stopped reporting and that was the end of that.
