I heard they were gonna ban smoking on the outside patio. Anyone know?

I kinda go both ways with this. On one hand, I can see how a non smoker wouldn't want to walk through/sit around an area where people are smoking (esp if kids are around). But on the other, if this is true, it will DEF change the clientele.

I have one way and that is not to be around second hand smoke if possible. I hope more places follow suite.

If its something they're voluntarily doing as a business decision I'm ok with it. If its being done to comply with a city ordinance or new state law I'm not.

^ so are you not ok with regulating food and water pollution? Or is it just air pollution that should be unregulated?

You can't really stop people from smoking outside. That's why there's an inside. People will still walk past smoking, and they might end up losing a lot of customers.

Haha, it will work about as well as the smoking ban at St. Vincent's. They'll have a ring of smokers standing around the perimeter, three feet away from where they were previously.

It is happening everywhere, most cities have bans for all food establishments and some include bars and nightclubs (as NPR article mentioned) backlash won't be that much. Plus with more and more using those electronic cigarettes it really doesn't make a huge difference.  What will be interesting to see is when the 10 year mark hits those cities that have banned it, will they see improved health? I smoke, and to be honest when I am in NYC I do not even mind that I can't smoke in most areas, after I got used to it, I don't even notice it really.  Just walk a little further away. It impoves QOL for the non-smoker and that is okay by me.

Not within 25' of the outdoor facilities, in 7,000 locations. OFFICIAL.

How is that going to work where they're right next to other places with outdoor seating?

Have you ever tried to enjoy a S'bucks breakfast sandwich and hot tea in the morning when the guy next you is smoking a rank stogie.  Not.

I recently frequented a truck stop in Missouri last month where smoking was still allowed in the restaurant, it had been so long, I had forgotten how bad second hand smoke gets into the food.

It may cool in some B&W from the 40's, but smoking and eating just don't belong together.

But hey, what do I know. I'm of the opinion we can all regulate ourselves into a utopia someday. ;)

Why do so many smokers think it is OK to throw their cigarette butts on the ground or out of car windows?  Look around a bus stop sometimes.  Maybe it was all right in the days before filters, but the filters are little poison bombs and don't rot away like paper and tobacco.
When all else fails hug the dog.

This reminds me of a long ago romantic conquest, I knew she smoked cigarettes but never gave it much thought as during those days as a long haired, noble fared, leaping gnome, everybody smoked a little something. She was probably putting down a pack a day but all I could think of was her heavenly body and a face that was a gift from God. Somewhere in all of this there was a long kiss, and for the first time I realized what it would be like to lick the bottom of a birdbath.
