Should Jax be divided into boroughs like NYC, or their equivalent?

New York has 5 boroughs, each headed by a president, Jax has 5 or more regions, Westside, Northside, Urban core, Arlington, etc that may be better served with a bit of autonomy and self governance. My dream city would have 6, 7, or 8 communities, each headed by a president who also represents the region on the city council. Each community  would have an office where the president/city council person would hold regular town hall stlye meetings with the concerned citizens  of that area.

I am in no way in favor of deconsolidation, I think what this city did in 1968 was quite remarkable, and that we should remain an indivisible city.

Would someone please post a map of the 2015 council district reapportionment?

Is this it?

What does it matter if you have a backwards council member or a backwards president of a borough?

I like that idea to break Jax down into regions. However, I disagree about consolidation. Consolidating the city was the biggest blunder they would've conceived. Look at what happened to Downtown as a result of deconsolidation. Our police and fire depts are struggling to cover the vast areas. If we just stayed a county with all of those towns, Downtown would be more active, it would still be the county seat. If I was king of JAX, consolidation would be the first thing overturned.

Politics of any kind is frustrating when they aren't doing what you want them to.  I tend to believe the issue is better solved by electing different people as opposed to reconfiguring the setup.

Exactly!  Vote more progressive people into office and things will change.  Most of the good that has happened in the city was due to grass roots efforts, which has nothing to do with our politicians.  Actually, our politicians had fought to the bloody end to stop all the good from happening.  If we had 3/4 of our council like Lori Boyer, we would be the great city we want to be.  It has nothing to do with re arranging the cards if your hand is bad.

Why would you want to be like New York City?

There are all different kinds of people, I'm albino and can walk around NYC without any trouble, (no one makes fun of me, not even in Harlem) There are so many freaks up there that I just blend in. Millions of people compacted in small areas. I might even be able to find a woman to date, unlike here. It's very walkable, transit runs 24/7, their history is still intact, I love the accent, I can go on and on.

Yes, we should strive to be more like NYC, but we can still be our own version of it. Wasn't our Downtown built by architects from NYC and Chicago after the Great Fire of 1901? Had they not come down here to build, I doubt we'd have any skyscrapers at all today.

Luckily for New York's sake, the infrastructure is already there in place. Because Bloomberg isn't actually the ideal mayor who's tackling the key issues/problems in the city etc. He's more worried about uber-trivial matters such as banning large sugary drinks, and 'hiding' cigarettes in convenient stores. I agree with the others above that the borough namesake doesn't = progressive part of the city, it's all about who's in office.

You mean Republican, low taxes, more jobs, traditional values, real estate attorney Lori Boyer?   Yep, I agree with you!

Sounds more like you should be in New York not Jacksonville.

NYC is a huge city (in terms of population density), I think that's why they have boroughs.

You can be a Republican and Progressive.
