Fuddrucker's Moving Ahead, Finally

I hate to say it but the Landing is terrible.  I went there the other day and it is shocking to see how it has declined as compared with its heyday.  It is sad that stupid politicians (read Peyton) stood in the way of positive improvements at this downtown centerpiece.

The political fight to torpedo Sleiman's past expansion plans is one of the worst recent things to happen to downtown.  Demographics aren't the only reason why Orange Park Mall and The Avenues continue to be successful, while others like Regency and Gateway lose their market share.  They continue to renovate and update their tenant base to remain competitive destinations.  The Landing's problems are no different than what happens to any other 20 year old non-renovated shopping center.  It not only needs to excell at finding its on unique niche in this marketplace.  More importantly, its in need of a makeover and a good scrubbing.  Until that happens, it will continue to be hit and miss regardless of what tenants move in.

I'll be fine with Fuddrucker's if there are no health violations there too!
Some of the violations they listed for that "Bourbon Express" were just gross and scary

Oh man really? I didn't know about the violations.....I ate there 3 times a week for a year. Are we talking roach legs in the mash potatos or just not having a sneeze guard?

Here you go David...

Problems at Bourbon Express, according to an inspection report from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, included buildup of slime in the ice maker, dozens of dead and live roaches on site and grease accumulation in the kitchen.

My guess is that David would have preferred to go on in blissful ignorance.  Having eaten there once myself, I would have as well.  Don't ask, don't tell isn't just for the military, its for Taco Bell too.   :)

Just wondering, what happens if Bourbon Express has pest control come monthly? Will this make a difference? I would guess not if all of the other restaurants aren't doing the same. Sort of seems to me like the property owner should be pest-controlling the entire thing if they really want to help it be successful (and charge for it in CAM rate).

David

Well it all makes sense now. It's no wonder you could get that much food for 5.45! I know there's roaches in the food, but...really, do you know how hard it is to get lunch downtown for under 8 bucks?  At least I know my immune system's functioning properly....but please don't tell me Pete's pizza has been hit with numerous healthcode violations as well. That was where I ate the other two days a week when working downtown. 3 slices and a drink for 3.99!

I would think in an environment like the Landing the property owner do pest control for the whole building as well....

Should you discover to your horror that you've accidentally ingested a quantity of roaches, Bourbon Express should be one of your first stops. There may be no known medical way to kill roaches within the human digestive tract, but drink enough bourbon and you can hear the little devils screaming out in pain all night long.

 :D :D

Where was the Bourbon Express located anyway?  The Food Court?

David

Right. It's located at the begining of the food court right as you get off the esculator. There's usually someone handing out free samples around lunch time. It's pretty tasty chicken too, so that sucks about the health code violations.

I suggest the terriyaki chicken stand around the corner as a substitue, also reasonably priced and delicious!

I have eaten at Bourbon Express years ago, hopefully in the pre-roaches days.

The terriyaki chicken stand is pretty good.  I have eaten there fairly recently.  It is hard to believe that just one stall would have roaches though and the rest would not.  They are all right next to each other.

A few years back I purchased two dinners from the chinese restaurant about two stalls down from Bourbon Express.  When I got home and prepared to chow down I opened the lid to find they had garnished my fried rice with a great big roach whole body intact.  I had to call the Landing management to get my money back.

Hopefully things have improved since then!!!

RiversideGator

That's it.  I am never eating at the Landing again.

Oh wow, I didn't know they prepared such authentic dishes at the Landing.
