Mathews Bridge turns 60

Just wanted to put this out there.  Check out www.OldArlington.org. They are celebrating the Mathews Bridge turning 60 this Saturday.  Events involve a rededication of the bridge and other activities.

I can't believe I missed this. I saw it afterwards (on the news) people were able to walk across it. A long walk, but probably some spectacular views (Ford plant, Hart bridge, etc).

Oh well, maybe in 15 years

My beef was that not a whole lot of info was posted, even on the Old Arlington Website.  And when I inquired for more info, I was directed back to the Old Arlington Website.  Folks, some of us can't walk without a cane - logistics are important to us.  I know they were to park at the Wachovia Bank on Cesery, near the bridge, but just where were they going to meet - and were they going to walk uphill?  How far?  How steep?  No can do.  Neither could I have walked over the bridge.  People like to have information so that they can determine whether or not they can do something or if they should just stay home and miss it.  I had to do the latter.  Yes, now it's a moot point, but THE point is publicize your logistics.  (sample:  "we're going to park at (so and so) and meet in the back of the building where you guide will take you up the hill and to the monument on the bridge".)  Isn't that friendlier and more inviting than "here's the website".  That made me feel as if they didn't want people to show up.

I agree with you, logistics are very important no matter if there's a disability involved or not.

On the subject, the old Arlington website is horrible. I know they've done a lot of work on it, but it needs to be completely thrown out and replaced with a traditional wiki.
