I copied and paste from the Times union. What is this all about?

Transportation
A bill by Travis Cummings, R-Orange Park, would create the Northeast Florida Regional Transportation Commission, covering Duval, Baker, Clay, Nassau, Putnam and St. Johns counties.

The commission would be comprised of four members from Duval and one each from the smaller counties. All would be unpaid.

The commission would be tasked with improving “mobility and expand multimodal transportation options from persons and freight throughout the Northeast Florida region,” according to the bill.

The commission could hire an executive director.

The bill (HB 345) does not have a Senate sponsor.

Looks like Rep. Cummings - who used to be Clay County Commissioner Cummings - is introducing legislation connected with the Regional Transportation Study Commission: http://www.northfloridartsc.com/Pages/default.aspx

Here are the Phase 1 recommendations:
Quote
In Phase I, create the Northeast Florida Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) which
will:
o develop a multimodal regional transportation plan
o identify and secure dedicated funding to implement the plan
o advance strategic projects and services with an initial focus on coordinating
regional transit
o propose an organizational framework for implementing the regional
transportation plan

We have a regional transportation plan.  It is called the Long Range Transportation Plan and is updated regularly (about to begin the new update this year).  It has transit in it as well.  Do we really need to duplicate it?

I think the long term plan is to create a regional organization to plan and implement transportation projects.

and find a dedicated funding source!

or maybe just to implement...I think the "plan" is to let the NFTPO do the majority of planning
