So sad, another downtown landmark lost. :(

*This must be said anytime any building is torn down in the DT area, so I'm just fulfilling MJ's obligation*

Okay, everything is back to normal now.  8)

I-10, I don't think anyone is crying about seeing a car dealership come down.  I think most are looking forward to McDonald's going in there.

Isn't that the new Alvin Brown drop-in center in the back ground?

I'm sorry, but I find it comical that a town is excited about getting a McDonalds and a Family Dollar.......really???

^^^Nobody said that looking forward to convenient downtown places equals to throwing a ticker tape parade. Talk about a typical response; The ever-present, and dramatically scrutinized "you're really excited because of a fast food chain" comment. It's all about taking baby steps to improve downtown right now.

As opposed to a vacant  building / car lot that becomes vandalized and neglected .....YES!!!

I'm just providing an account of the destruction. There are plenty of fast food, low budget dollar stores in Jacksonville. I'm just puzzled how this mass destruction occurs on Alvin Brown's watch. The only problem is it is progress, I'm sure most of us would rather see a Trader Joes or a Starbucks.  I only wish there was a solution to repurpose buildings instead of tearing them down. This kind of vision of putting a drop in center in the Calvary building and attracting a Family Dollar or McDonalds indicates that Mayor Brown and the DIA have their work cut out for them.

I think all of the single story structures in DT should be demolished in favor of skyscrapers, or at the very least three to five story apartment buildings.

Kreger, so you wanted the city to save the Warren Motors building? What did you want it to be reincarnated as? I don't think that many people feel you on that, it seems like that building was nothing more than an outdated auto dealership with no historical value whatsoever. I willing to bet that most people in the city's mainstream think that having a Mc Donald's downtown (which we currently don't) is more important than a Starbucks. Well I guess that my sarcastic reply on the second post had a tad of validity afterall (not with everyone of course).

We had two Starbucks downtown.  One even had free rent. They both closed.

and Sleiman ran the other one off. Maybe if the starbucks had a drive through it would have survived?
