I'm sorry, but I find it comical that a town is excited about getting a McDonalds and a Family Dollar.......really???

I'm just providing an account of the destruction. There are plenty of fast food, low budget dollar stores in Jacksonville. I'm just puzzled how this mass destruction occurs on Alvin Brown's watch. The only problem is it is progress, I'm sure most of us would rather see a Trader Joes or a Starbucks.  I only wish there was a solution to repurpose buildings instead of tearing them down. This kind of vision of putting a drop in center in the Calvary building and attracting a Family Dollar or McDonalds indicates that Mayor Brown and the DIA have their work cut out for them.

So the mayor gets the blame for Warren Motors moving and selling their property? The city really didnt have much of a say in that. Warren motors sold their property and the building to these folks. Cant blame that on the city.

This is a better alternative than another empty lot for the homeless or a building thats falling apart. Actually, if we want more residents downtown, we need to have basic amenties in a resonible distance from where they stay. This will only help. Also, nobody said that fast food resturants and dollar stores are part of " The downtown master plan", however it does not hurt to have them.

Family Dollar might have looked real good in the Warren Motors building. If I had my way it would be a motor cycle/scouter dealership. There are plenty of empty lots up and down State and Union to build a McDonalds.  A drive through Starbucks would have also made more sense. The downtown locations for Starbucks both sucked, hence the free rent. I will be the first to admit I am keen on progress, but I just wish new development utilized empty lots over tearing down existing structures that might serve a greater purpose down the road as downtown re-emerges.

I went into a Family Dollar for the first time last week. I was actually surprised by some of what they had. I'd buy various items from there...tape, tooth paste, party supplies, and other odds & ends. Looking forward to the opening.

The almost finished McDonalds got tagged with huge letters in white spray paint on the east side of the building.

See, this is why we can't have nice stuff.

As opposed to a vacant  building / car lot that becomes vandalized and neglected .....YES!!!

This is a spark of an organic cluster of  development that is a tactical infill strategy that will elevate this community to regional and international recognition.

So who wants a Big Mac to go and we'll put in at the newest Downtown Mayor Brown Kayak launch logo and then take it to the brand new No Fishing signs that was never before the Jacksonville Waterways Commission.

I noticed that too Saturday morning. Big huge letters from roof to ground spelling SH*T. Something tells me that wasn't random activity. Paint thrown on the windows. sad.

I know!  All that sodium, fat and modified corn starch.  How many lives will the damn thing ruin.  But they are very very popular I suppose.

What I was thinking. Not a nice thing to do, but I'm sure not gonna cry over some corporate fast food shit hole getting tagged, in this town or any other.

And also one that simply came to that area to leech off of an already depressed population, because that IS why they're there. Along with Family Dollar.

Mom & Pop America are smiling down. <Hint: They're dead.

thanks for the calorie info. Stephen, but how about the Egg McMuffin, the yogurt parfait, etc....sure there are lots of pretty bad-for-you choices on the menu, but there are also more than 20 food choices under 400 calories

and as for calories in coke, you might find it interesting to know that McDonalds also serves Diet Coke and water :)
