Well another crime tonight.  My bike was stolen. Happened in front of Zoe's.  I had it locked up on the bike rack in front of Zoe's.  Put it there around 6:30 and when I came back around 7:05 it was gone.  SO if anyone sees a blue 18" GT Rebound with yellow RockShox forks.  This was bought by me second hand so it isn't the shiniest bike out there, but if anyone sees a neighbor with new transport send me a message.

What kind of lock did you have on it?  I would be really upset if someone took my bike.  I use a cable, but the jerks are cutting them now maybe need to upgrade to something better.  Any advice?

A heavy-duty U-lock is going to be your best bet, but they're still not impervious. At least anyone looking to get through one of them will need an angle grinder or a bottle jack; both of which are methods a thief is unlikely to attempt in an area with people around it.

A cable or chain lock takes about 2 seconds to get through. Good for protecting your bike from a person walking past on the street, but not from a bike thief.

Taking someone's bike is like kicking their puppy!  Really lowlife and personal.  Super bad karma!

Everybody, there is a serial number on your bike.  They are usually on the bottom bracket where the pedals go through and sometimes on the front bracket where the handlebars are mounted.  Record that number somewhere safe and memorable.  It will greatly increase the chances that you will get it back.

Thanks for the advice, guys.  Off to City Cycle tomorrow for a U lock.

It's not just in Riverside!  The Holiday crime season seems to be starting early this year.

QuoteJACKSONVILLE, Fla. --  The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is looking for information after someone broke into numerous vehicles at Jacksonville Golf and Country Club overnight Tuesday.

Shannon Hartley, Public Information Officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, said police were called to the gated community around in the early morning hours of October 24.

Police received reports vehicles had been broken into during the night.  A surveillance camera at the country club shows a white male near one of the victim's vehicles around 3 a.m. that morning, Hartley said.

Then, at 5:05 that morning, Hartley said a credit card stolen from one of the vehicles was used at the drive-thru of the McDonald's located at 14200 Beach Blvd.  The man who used the credit card appears to be driving a black Acura TL or smaller vehicle.

Anyone with information about the identity of the men or the vehicle is asked to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500 or via email at JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org.

To remain anonymous and be eligible to receive a cash reward, you may contact First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.

Heavens to Betsy!!!!!

You mean shit like that happens in gated communities?  Oh the horror.  Is no where safe?

Three cars broken into in the past week in my neck of the woods. One house was broken in through the front door when they saw a FedEx package on the porch thinking no one was home... except oops, they were.

24 gallons of gas siphoned off in the spring before a JSO overnight finally shooed them off.

They got into my car last week and left all of my gloveboxes etc. open, but I didn't have anything of value. But got all of the CD's out of the neighbors SUV the same night.

I can't even tell you how many washers, dryers and refrigerators have been stolen from the model house at the front of the neighborhood.  They finally put webcams in. My son even caught some guys trying to steal the AC unit across the street to extract the copper. They were so bold, they even knocked the fence down with their truck to reach it.  JSO caught up with them and hauled them away.

Our neighborhood is beginning to see a pattern where in one week we are inundated with water softener and yard care sales people and the following week a wave of crime erupts.

A friend of 13 years was killed in his carport in middleburg Thursday of this week, nobody knows why. Well I guess somebody does, hopefully the cops figure out who's responsible. Not telling a sob story, just saying, let's keep it in perspective. This is by far one of the safer neighborhoods in the city, and in the absence of any real crime, it seems like siphoned gas and stolen bikes are becoming a psychologically-amplified crime wave. Sure, car break-ins are a pain in the ass, but the reason they seem so prevalent here is that the neighborhood's so old that half the houses don't have garages. If you guys move to other neighborhoods, you'd quickly be longing for our 'crime wave' compared to what happens in a lot of other places in this city. Copper theft happens everywhere there's a vacant house in this economy.
