Tres Leches Bakery Cafe Opens in Riverside



Established in February 2011, Tres Leches is based on the belief that there is nothing more important in life than loved ones and there is not a better way to show them care & love than through meals. According to their website, a warm & cozy meal say more than words can describe and special sweet treats can bring the best out of people. Today, Eddie and Irene Sweda brings their treats to Riverside's Stockton Street with the opening of Tres Leches Bakery Cafe.

Maybe that's why that's why childhood obesity and type II diabetes is a growing problem these days   

All joking aside, it looks very promising. I am happy to see that the location didn't stay empty long and a bakery/cafe moving in is excellent for the neighborhood. I will definitely check it out when I'm in town next. It looks nice inside, too. Tastefully decorated and not overdone.

Can't wait to try it. Always wanted to get to it's old location in Springfield...by the time I tried, I found out they were moving 2 blocks away from me. Look forward to it.

Man if they can survive that long in Springfield they'll probably kill it on that strip in Riverside!  (Not a knock on Springfield, just a commentary on reality, and the fact that they must be "that good" to survive in their previous home for so long!)

Seriously though, that block is a microcosm of how a Jacksonville with a real sense of place could be and is allowing local businesses to establish long term success.  Whatever is making that block work needs to be replicated everywhere, especially downtown.

Went to Tres Leches this past weekend.

Had the Tres Leches, Key Lime Meringue, and the Marchesa.  Each was unbelievable and the Marchesa looks like it takes forever to make (many many layers finely woven together).

Owners were very nice (Venezuelan family).  Their comments to me were that there was no foot traffic in Springfield and because they were active at RAM, most of their customers were based in Riverside to begin with.  They tell me that their volume is exponentially more than before.

It's too bad they couldn't find a suitable space on Main Street or 8th Street. That hole-in-the-wall on Pearl Street just doesn't have the eyeballs. I know they looked hard for something that would fit.

I knew they would do well at Stockton & Myra, it's a great location! (Very nice people too!)

They said the same thing to me. They also added: not only is their volume higher, but so is their overhead. I wonder how long they'll last. Personally, I like them. But, I've heard from one too many people that the prices are too high.
