I say MMA all the way. Boxing had it's glory days in the eighties/ nineties with the great heavyweights, like Tyson, Holyfield etc, but those days seems like a distant memory. Even boxing's last gasp 'dream matchup' Pac-Man vs Mayfield lost some serious luster with Pacquiao's lost to Timothy Bradley. Hell, even college football is gonna be more organized than boxing with that 'Final Four' that will be implemented in a couple of years. I honestly can't even watch boxing anymore. I'm definitely gonna order the next UFC PPV Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen. The common reason why alot of boxing fans don't like the UFC if because they say stuff like "I don't wanna watch two guys laying on one another", people that don't like watching wrestling or jujitsu; UFC fighters are constantly evolving now when you see guys (like a Jon Jones) completely stuffing takedown attempts, forcing fighters to stand up and bang it out, so in 2012 that 'laying on each other' excuse doesn't hold any weight IMO. Boxing fans, feel free to vote, chime in, and disagree with me by all means. :)

I'm not ashamed to admit that, amongst many other sports, I was a huge pro wrestling fan growing up. In my opinion,  guys like Ric Flair,  Ricky Steamboat,  Arn Anderson, Harley Race, Terry Funk, and even Dusty Rhodes could hold their own as athletes against anyone from the other major sports in the 80s, and are hugely under appreciated for their contributions to the Florida sports scene. To me,  MMA is in many ways what pro wrestling used to be back when it was actually watchable.  Two guys who don't like each other,  like Silva and Sonnen (or Tito and Chuck, Shamrock and Frye,  Lesnar and Mir, Penn and GSP, Sakuraba and Royce,  Rampage and Rashad, Cyborg and Carano,  Nick Diaz and anyone, etc) fighting to prove who is better.

I've been a huge MMA fan going back to the days when I'd have to special order PRIDE videotapes from Suncoast Video,  but sadly,  I think the sport (which realistically just means UFC these days) has really done a lot of unnecessary damage to itself in the last few years by over exposing the product so egregiously. I used to be excited for every single UFC show when they'd run 8 to 10 pay per views a year. You would have time to look forward to every match and you could get a big group together for every show. Now, the sport has become more like boxing, where you have 2 or 3 major fights per year, often lackluster undercards, and nothing else that feels very special. I think UFC put on over 20 shows last year alone between pay per view, FOX, and Fx.

All that said, even with all the corruption, nothing matches the excitement of a giant prize fight in boxing. The heavyweight stuff was great in the 80s and 90s, but Mayweather versus Oscar de la Hoya was probably the greatest promoted fight of my lifetime.

If I'm sitting down to watch a random show, I'll take MMA ten times out of ten,  though.

Tremendous win last night for Ronda Rousey.

Seven straight wins by first-round arm bar.

Loved ESPN's headline, "Ronda Rousey: One Girl you don't want to have on your Arm."

^^^Talk about someone who has that submission technique down pack. Even though it was over very late in the first round, Liz C. gave Ronda a pretty good fight. That co-main event Machida vs Hendo was a boring fight though. Now time for Dana White to sign Cris Cyborg, for the Ronda vs Cyborg fight. :)

Believe it or not, Dana White actually did quietly sign Cris Cyborg a few months ago, despite her steroid failure last year. The plan was to build toward a Ronda vs. Cyborg fight for the bantamweight title, but Cyborg backed out and requested her release from UFC after claiming that she couldn't possibly cut down to 135 pounds for the fight. Dana White offered to pay for a nutritionist and cardio specialist for her, but she refused to fight at any lower weight than 140. Dana White finally got sick of her shit and granted her a release. Apparently, the new plan is to bring in Gina Carano to fight Ronda Rousey. I like Gina, but I don't think she'd stand a chance :)

You're right on Hendo vs. Machida. What a dull fight. I blame Machida. At least Dan Henderson was engaging his opponent. Machida was just running.

Anyone gonna check out the Friday Nights Fights (boxing) tonight at the JVMA, or tune to it on TV? Although I'm not a huge boxing fan, I'll check it out on TV (ESPN2 at 9:00PM). I'd be lying if I said that I knew any of the fighters, LOL.
